So, I posted this in The Musician's Corner...might as well post it here too:

"This might be pointless, but I want to get the word out there. The Omega Experiment is seeking full-time members to make what seems like an impossible dream a reality. We would need a second guitarist, bassist, and one solid as hell drummer. We are also still seeking vocalists. We are doing pretty well with our current vocalists, but still need a female...and if we can find a MAIN dude (or chic) to bring it all together that is insanely talented and motivated...then so be it! For now we are gonna work on getting our demos finished, and if we still have no other members by then, we will pull an Animals as Leaders and play to a backing track. Fuck it."

Look for a new youtube vid of us previewing bits of Karma and Gift later tonight.

What do you use to get such a clear and defined guitar sound? I just cant get a sound that's that clear with just my POD D:

You think that is clear based on that crappy video? LOL...Ok, I'll take it :D

Well, for example, on Gift...I have the regular stereo guitars going, but there is a middle one that is effected and has the mids boosted. The stereo guitars are just my ADA Mp-1 through the Rocktron Chameleon for the cab simulator. I keep a BBE Sonic Maximizer plug in on ALL of my stereo rhythm guitars, and sometimes stack them (4 tracks stereo). It brings out a crystal high end, and rounds out the mids.

Most bands these days using pods have a "zero mid-range policy". It doesn't work well for cutting through, and I don't think scooping the mids is always necessary for achieving heaviness. If you keep your mids at about half, then use just a bit of the sonic maximizer...it rounds them out without cutting out the important frequencies. Trial and error man. :D

Oh yea I know man. Most bands I like definitely keep mids in the mix, and I've learned over the years that without mids you lose so much of the overall tone.

I need to just find things like the Sonic Maximizer that helps bring out the crisp tones I get when playing through my cab.

Yeah, if you either use a sonic maximizer with your rig, or use a plug-in....it really makes a difference. What are you playing through again?

Copied and pasted from "Musician's Corner":

We are gonna play a show here coming up. It's at Hot Topic in our local mall. It will be Ryan, Victor and I...playing on top of a recorded track. What I'll do is mix down an instrumental version of Motion minus one guitar track, keyboard track, and lead vocal track...so they will be vacant for our performances. We won't be doing any other songs yet as they aren't finished vocally.
I'll keep everyone updated as to how it is turning out with rehearsals and what not... :D

Live update: (Not that any of you will be able to see it, but we will have video!!)

Victor and I have had two rehearsals for "Motion". The first was a bit shaky. I was worried about him doing Bob's lead parts justice, but by the second rehearsal, he was totally nailing it! I could tell he has been practicing on his own. Basically what I am doing is muting most of the "main" vocals so he can sing them. Same goes for guitar and keys.

Ryan and I just got done jamming on Motion for the first time together. It was weird, but in a good way. It was almost overwhelming, playing these songs with him. Our process has been the same for so long now: I record/write all the drums/guitars/bass, and as I go, he comes over and we write/record keyboard parts. We NEVER play together, except for ambient jams. It was very spiritual for me, and totally removed any doubt in me that we will be able to pull this off live. I am beyond excited. :D

So now the search will go on for full time members...

Karma is pretty much done instrumentally, and Victor and I have been sorting out vocals for the past few weeks. I was thinking about a teaser for the sites... maybe after we redo the chorus vocals. No more posting instrumentals though. Sorry.

I finished the skeleton of Terminus. It is probably our simplest song as far as arrangements go, and one of our moodiest. Lots of open space...doomy and dark in spots, minus the chorus. That thing is HUGE....and very uplifting.

Hmm. Well, we had a loud and live rehearsal last night at a buddie's house. The PA I am borrowing isn't the greatest thing ever, but for playing in Hot Topic, I think it will suffice. I am still able to get a pretty good vocal production with some compression and effects. I am just running the Rocktron unit direct with the cab simulator for guitar. Sounds pretty good.

I wish we had a few power amps and some subs and tweeters to separate the sound a bit. Maybe down the road when we do a bigger gig...

The main problem I am having is with the vocals. Why is it SO hard to find ONE person to represent all of it? Vocals with music like this are the hardest thing to get right. Victor is great, don't get me wrong. I can do some wicked things with his voice in the studio, but live, his approach is dated. He doesn't have the growl that Bob does, so when he does the verse...it is lacking bigtime. He also doesn't have the same background as us. He comes from Rush, Queensryche, Zeppelin, etc. I mean, I LOVE those bands. But, I also the current influences in there...like Dev, Patton, even some indie type stuff. UGH.

I guess I should just be grateful that someone wants to go through all of my perfectionist bullshit for free. This album may end up having MANY vocalists, and may never be able to be played live properly.

Maybe you'll get lucky one day and find someone else to do other vocals. Have 2 vocalists if necessary.

Awesome, Dan !

Don't you worry, Man... I'm sure you'll find a good vocalist. I think many talented ones would love to sing in that kind of the band.

Good luck on stage !
