Talk about whatever you want to here, but stay correct

Yea I understand. There is an achievement though, for getting 250 zombie brains for a mission. This is going to be interesting...Getting 100 was ok, but 250 seems to be a bit overkill for a 25 point achievement.

I'm pretty sure Borderlands is the "little game that could" of the year.

Something as much of a monolith (and really something I can't personally get into) as Modern Warfare 2 deserves some discussion in any main video game topic, and honestly I think it was kept to a pretty rational level.

Dragon Age is the shit.

I've also been playing a lot of New Super Mario Bros. Wii at work (I, uh, do Nintendo promotions) and that game is the shit for anyone with a heart. I understand if you're over classic platforming, but if you really need to tear it down for useless reasons I just can't understand. It fills, like everything 1st party on the Wii, a certain niche that I hold dearly that no other company is willing to fulfill anymore.

Sure. Please do bring up random indie games that have been done tons of times over, but just because they have an "artsy" look to them are called original.

Or maybe I'm just being a video game douche.

I'm bit fed up with generic AAA games with Manly Men in Helmets Shooting Hurribul Monsters or all that generic high fantasy toss. Indie developers are more open to changes (Portal was a copy of an indie game Narbacular Drop after all).

My problem with indie developers is that they almost always make platforming games with overly "artsy" visuals. Granted shooting things can definitely get boring, it still tends to provide a more accessible experience...aka more money.

I understand indie developers work on much smaller budgets than big developers, but really...platforming 2d(or maybe even 2.5d) side scrollers have been done since before Mario, do we really need more?

God knows I'm sick of shooters but until something else catches with popularity that's the way it'll be.

I detect the allusion to Braid. Sure it's artsy (not sure if "overly"), but it's highly rated because of the concept of time manipulation (smart and confusing as hell), not for being just artsy Mario clone.

Yeah. Top ten list of best selling indie games on direct2drive show such platformers as Rise of Flight, Zeno Clash, Mount and Blade or Machinarium. Actually only platform games there are above mentioned Braid and Trine - and these are hardly typical.

To be clear - I don't have anything against shooting, quite the contrary. I'd just like to see some new setting, bit more maturity, I don't know, something new. Let the Terry Gilliam write the story, get the soundtrack from Mulatu Astatke etc.

What about Alan Wake? That looks like it could be interesting.

It's not about the visuals as much as it is subtext.

The problem with mainstream developers is the fact that they constantly release sequels again and again and milk a cash cow for everything of which it is worth.

Nintendo: Haven't made a new proper franchise since 2001.

Microsoft: Can't stay away from FPS games with little challenge or depth. It's ironic you're talking about redundancy as well.

Sony: ...So, you're still in the competition?

It's developers like Grasshopper and 2D Boy which will make the future of games: not for the visuals, but for the storyline of which doesn't want to make you smash your head against the wall thousands of times over.

It has for years. Wasn't that first announced in '04 or something?

Well Heavy Rain looks like it's going to be a little different than most games. It's coming out sometime early next year. I'm deffo gonna look into it

I just had to quote this. First of all, the PS3 is going to be the longest running competitor in the bunch. Low hardware failure rates, technical specs that are actually superior to the 360. Plus the PS3 actually has more and more original franchises on it than the 360 has in the past few years. I play my 360 a lot more than my PS3, but I've yet to have one problem with my PS3, whereas now I'm waiting for my 3rd 360 to be returned to me from the repair center.

I still LOL at people who talk down to the PS3 as if it's really nothing, considering that overall it's really a very strong competitor to the 360.

As for the indie game argument, you are right Bruno, Braid had some very cool little elements to it that made it different, but I really dont think time manipulation and platforming are that original anymore (see Prince of Persia: Sands of Time trilogy).

The problem is, we're at a crossroads in the gaming market, yet again. That point in the console generation where sequels dominate the market, and we're just waiting for all the new franchises promised to us at game shows past to actually be released. Like Alan Wake, Heavy Rain, etc etc.

Yeah Sony have said that they will support ps3 in a ten year cycle (much like the ps2 is still being supported to this day nearly 10 years after its launch) I doubt very much that microsoft will support the 360 taht long

And why talk shit about PS3 when it's fucking obvious it is the best console of the current generation. Maybe not most successful but thats because it was too over priced at launch. But right now it's affordable for basically everyone.
