I wanted to get it too but most reviews I have read didn't sound TOO great...although the subject does sound cool and I usually dig open world games. I'll have to read some more reviews, maybe rent it first. I did hear the missions are pretty repetitive.

I've not read any reviews, and I don't think I'll bother. Like I said, it's the last game of the year I've been anticipating, so I'm just gonna jump into it whether it be shite or not... Plus I'm a sucker for sandbox... And the protagonist is Irish! :D

Finished Assassin's Creed as well. It's great for me to just be able to go buy the sequel now when I want to continue on the story... Must've been annoying to have had an ending like that and then having to wait for 2 years to find out what the fuck it's on about. :P

let me know if you like Saboteur. I AM interested in it, just not sure if it's a game that I need to buy right away or if it's a game I should buy when it's a cheapie.

also I finished COD4 on veteran difficulty. That was NOT a piece of cake! I never want to play that game on veteran again! EVER! The only achievement missing now is getting that 'epilogue' airplane level done on veteran difficulty, But I doubt I'll ever be good enough for that and 980 points is OK too! Heh

I couldn't pass the TV station level in CoD4. The waves of never ending enemies and endless grenades are a little frustrating. Plus I traded that game in to get MW2

the TV station level was still humane, wasn't all that bad. Several levels later in the game almost cost me my nerves though. Still can't believe I managed to get through them. But I don't ever want to play them on that difficulty setting again. I may try that epilogue level on veteran several more times I'm sure but I'm sure I won't beat that one. Not sure what I'll play next. Maybe something that ain't all that difficult.

For those who played CoD4's AC130 pilot mission:

Definitely not comfortable viewing for all, but it shows how realistic the portrayal in Modern Warfare was.

yeah, in all COD games there were many parts where I thought 'was that really necessary?' and 'are those guys crazy to put that in a video game?' In real life I'm very anti-war so part of me does not feel comfy with the COD stuff...but it's good games and as realistic as it may be at times (well, except that there's hardly any civilians in the games and if so then they are neither done well nor is the civilian suffering shown in any way, which is sad) it is just video games. But I do wonder sometimes if games are not more and more crossing lines that don't need to be crossed. Like that Airport part in MW2.

I think what makes these points so odd is the overwrought sense of right and wrong that comes in video games. There are no shades of grey if you get what i mean. It's because you're given the choice on whether or not you shoot civilians in the airport kinda makes you make some weird value judgements. However, if you were forced to open fire due to the case of the mission where it's a case of for the greater good, I'd submit that the moral ambiguity is less alarming than being forced to either be righteous or wicked.

Dont forget that there really hasnt been any female presence in any of the recent CoD games.

basically no women and children...what I'm saying is that I'm sure there's ways to include the civilian suffering during wars and not just the über-human soldiers. I think that would be something different considering that it hasn't really been done before. Like when you drop bombs and then get to the ground and there's not just a few terrorists or whatever on the ground but also dozens of civilians and the characters react to it. I'm not saying that HAS to be in a war themed video game but I think it would at least make a difference and would be a different approach.

Anyways...I read Mass Effect 2 will be released on 2 discs. Hmmm...wonder how often you have to change the disc then when you want to visit a place that you've visited before. But all the gameplay vids look really good and appearantly there's also spaceship battles in ME2 and you can find upgrades for your ship. Sounds pretty cool!

I didnt even mean the civilian aspect, I meant no women as soldiers or anything.

hah, hey that's actually true too! And I actually love games with ass kicking ladies! And if they want the stuff to be realistic, then yeah...better include women!

oh and I did manage to get that epilogue mission done on veteran so now I got 1000 points for COD4 and probably won't ever play the game again because of all the wonderful frustration it pleasured me with on veteran difficulty

Im over all Call of Duty games now. MW2 was good, but the multiplayer this time was quite broken in our region. Australia seems to have a hard time getting solid connections and when we do its usually after about an hour of waiting and sifting through American and European games. I wish they created dedicated servers like DICE did with the recent Battlefield games. Supposedly Infinity Ward are making a patch to fix the problem, but I'm sure it will only create a band-aid effect. The more I think about it the more Battlefield: BC 2 looks better, both in terms of visuals and gameplay.

I seriously believe Battlefield: BC is still better than both COD4 and MW2 combined. I maybe a bit biased with my remark, but clearly having dedicated servers and solid gameplay has outweighed MW2 illustrious online functionally. I think BF:BC2 will continue to do that for me, more so with the recent gameplay footage.

I recently purchased Borderlands and Assassin's Creed II today. Looking forward to playing them over Christmas. :)

actually I think Aussies aren't the only ones having problems with MW2 connections. I talked to a guy on my friends list and he said that he had problems too and he's in Germany. I personally didn't try the multiplayer stuff yet though.

Hm. Makes you wonder if a lot of these problems could have been sorted out by...I dont know, a public beta?

Trust me, even in the US we're having problems with the servers. People dropping from the lobby before a game starts, horrible lag from time to time. The list goes on, but IW really could have benefited from a public beta to sort out these connection issues.
