2012 finally... It's nice to see that family values and humanity prevailed despite of all that chaos Sarcasm aside, Yellowstone explosion definitely had wow-factor at 10+. Since I went to see this movie for purely it's sfx and it delivered in that aspect, I could recommend this to someone who can withstand all that human relations crap between destruction scenes.

My God, it's a-mazing! Visually stunning, of course, but like most Cameron movies, if you let your imagination free, you get swept away by the storyline as well. Especially when it's accompanied by such immense battle/combat sequences. If you have an ounce of cynicism about such things, DON'T see it. If you like cinematic storytelling at it's most spectacular, see it NOW!!!

Surprisingly original. I am glad the setting was in South Africa and not some typical metropolitan city like New York or LA. It made me feel kind of dirty at points though. I almost had to shut it off and shower...

I won't give it away, but I highly recommend it for anyone into post-apocalyptic sci-fi alien type movies. The vibe was almost like Aliens meets Blade Runner meets Mad Max...with a bit of new school epic production value (Independence Day minus the velveeta).

Watching it now, bought it on Blu Ray today. Pretty good so far!

I can see why you would say it made you feel "dirty". The movie was very visceral and didnt really hold back on anything.

Very interesting concept, very original for an alien movie. Definitely good stuff and recommended.

The nearest IMAX cinema is at Bradford, so a jaunt will be had to see it in its full glory at some point in January.

I read somewhere that James Cameron wanted to make a trilogy from Avatar, so here's hoping! There's certainly the possibility.

Just back from seeing Avatar. Sumptuous is definitely the word to use! (No 3D version around here but I'm rather glad about that because I wanted to see it normally before any added gimmicks.) It was like walking into every Roger Deans poster that my best friend had on her walls when we were kids and seeing them come alive.

Yes, the storyline is a familiar one - corporate greed using mercenaries against an apparently simple tribal culture but it was still really well done and told in a nice straightforward way. No overly complex plots to detract from the sheer beauty of the thing. I thought it was awesome.

It reminded me hugely of a book called Midworld written by Alan Dean Foster in the seventies.

If I may interject in all the Avatar-love for a minute there just to point out...

As for the Avatar sequel, I would think it'll definitely happen. I'd actually be really surprised if it didn't. The ending really left it open for continuation, and I thoroughly hope that shall come to be, for more eyegasms would be lovely.
