There are some videos out there that are just meant to make people from a different time and place so very, very happy.

Some dude playing Killjoy by Sybreed on a piano. Works very well IMO, I like the fact most of the polyphony from the original song is neatly arranged into a piece played by one guy.

Truism of the day: learning to play keyboard instrument must be rewarding as hell.

'Tis. Why not give it a shot?

It absolutely is when it's not forced on you.

When I was a young Jew, I very much was forced to learn to play piano for 7 years of my life.

It's only now after a 5 year recovery that I can approach it and pick and poke and learn all the funness of keyboarding.

Very true. I just starting noodling on it one day as a kid, and my parents asked, "do you want lessons?" I said, "sure," and ended up playing for the past 11 years. It probably didn't hurt that my teacher got me into composition as well, and we ended up splitting all my lessons into performance and composition segments.

But I've met some people at recitals and such who were playing piano because it's what someone else wanted, and they were miserable. Usually damn good, but miserable.

Bobby McFerrin is a gifted guy. ( Circlesongs... if you haven't got it, worth a listen.)

I love that I got away with Surfin' Bird when I told everyone to apply it to that cheerleader with the neurological disease a few months ago.
