my ears are fucked. just drove back Newcastle and almost ran out of petrol which would've been a disaster. The Ziltoid songs were definitely the highlight for me. haha I saw the tshirt and was wondering what that was all about.

I was ready to deck these 2 cunts in front of me just having a loud general conversation during Ki. Un-fucking-believable. They weren't paying any attention at all while everyone else was silent and experiencing the moment. I ended up walking further back so I could hear.

Some other dickhead yelled out "S.Y.L!!!". yeah mate, they're not playing.

Devin seemed really in his element. Such an incredible talent but just comes across as a genuine humble fella and being only about the music. His ramblings are a deadset pisser as well.

Not very often do I go to a gig by myself but I had a fucking great night.

Very awesome gig. I loved the music before Dev's set, he probably chose it...
Sorry for taking off my shirt...

Devin Townsed was amazing tonight, but it has left me wanting more. Too much heavy, and not enough of the softer dynamics I had dreamed of. I know he had 10+ albums to choose tracks from, but Ziltoid and Addicted was a little over-represented. Would have loved to have seen - Night, Christeen, Deep Peace, Bad Devil, Vampira, Storm and Suicide at the very least. Still an awesome setlist:

addicted.
supercrush.
kingdom.
truth.
om. [full version]
deadhead.
ZTO
by your command
ziltoid attaxx
seventh wave.
life.
earth day.
numbered.
namaste.
colour your world.
the greys.
ki.
bend it like bender.

Devin was soooo entertaining, he's gotta a rubber face!
Pissed off that they ran out of my size shirts b4 the gig even started!
Support band "Contrive" have a long way to go yet, especially in the lyric and vocal department IMHO.

Dev appears to be in the weird position of finally being able to represent the old stuff while still having to promote the new. It's as if he's trying to make up for lost time and say "hey, lets give the old stuff its proper due but I'm also promoting addicted!" I think the setlist he came up with makes sense for the time being. Perhaps with more mileage, we'll hear "Canada" after "Namaste" :)

I got the whole show recorded from the front row...just reviewing the file now to see what the quality is like..but it think its pretty hi-def.

Do you think Dev would mind it being posted?

Wow there are alot of novacastrians on the board...that's where I come from as well...we should probably have carpooled because I nearly ran out of petrol as well...maybe we could have combined our fuel supplies and had like half a tank or something?

I'm from Newy :D

My first Dev show. It was AMAZING.

Saw the shirt that got thrown up on stage

I had a great view of Dev from the second row from the front upstairs. Just before 'Bender' when Dev was asking if he should play 'something fun', some smart ass behind me belted out "Detox!!!!". Was pretty funny. Gained a few laughs from everyone, which is probably exactly the attention he was after

Hung around after the show and one of the sound tech's actually personally went and asked Dev if he would come say hi, and he did. I was stoked, and Dev was super friendly and he must have said at least 5 times how much he appreciated the support. He even wanted to stick around and have a chat. He's an awesome dude.

Well that was something, eh? :D

Drove up from Canberra with my wifey and parked closer to the city to avoid the nightmare of Newtown/Enmore parking. After a delicious shish kebab from Sultan's Table (if anyone saw a tall bald guy and his better half eating kebabs (oo er) out front of the Enmore while Contrive played, that was me), we headed in and had a bit of a listen to the second half of Contrive's set... really not my thing, to be blunt. And very loud indeed - louder than Dev and co. and unnecessarily so in my opinion. Good luck to 'em anyway.

So we headed out back to get some merch. Had my cash in my hand only to find that there were only medium and small t-shirts left! ARGH! A couple of things to say about that: 1. It's awesome that the merch sold so well, and 2. From the looks on the faces of dozens of fellow larger folk around the merch table, there was a missed opportunity to makes some extra bucks there. I'm not sure what the situation is, but I know I'll put my hands up if some extra tour tees are printed or otherwise made available for sale online. My Ro-designed 2000 tour tee needs a companion before it disintegrates completely!

Headed back in and got a spot about midway, centre. Not too jostled for position at all, apart from one very drunk guy who I "accidentally" nudged a few inches to my right, and some big dude who seemed to want to hug me for some reason, despite there being enough room for everyone. The mood of the crowd was pretty festive and it was great to see so many Dev t-shirts, particularly all those Ziltoids! The pre-show music was amusing, and it was good to see at least SOME people got the joke. Metalheads dancing to Barbie Girl never fails to entertain.

So the boys come out and basically played a very up-tempo, loud and brash show, which was very entertaining indeed. Hearing quite a few Ziltoid tracks was an experience - it all came across very, very well live - fast, loud and funny. The Greys was just beautiful, and a real show highlight for me. Namaste was intense, just as I remember it from a decade ago. Earth Day was a treat and got the crowd involved and Devin's banter was of his usual high standard - a cut above the vast majority of musicians. Other than The Greys, personal highlights were the likes of Life, Om and Seventh Wave representing the "older" stuff so well. And if I take away one memory in terms of individual songs, it will be Ki. Won't spoil it for others, but the way Dev went about it was superb - intense and personal and had the crowd transfixed. Apart from some bovine entity behind me who thought her moronic conversation was more important. But I digress.

Ki is such a beautiful song - it may have just been me, but it gave me a sense of "listen up guys, because this is where I want to take things in the future". I hope to see a full show of more reflective, personal stuff on the next tour. It may just be where my sensibilities are heading as I get older, but the likes of Ghost, Ki and the acoustic show concepts suggest that's where Dev's muse may be pointing him too. If so, hurrah I say. Oh, and Bend It Like Bender? Not a huge fan of the album version, but loved it live and it works as a closer - gotta love leaving with a smile on your face!

I also have to make mention of Ryan's drumming. Ryan, you rule. Your drumming on this tour deserves its own thread, so that's just what we should do!

We got home at 5am after an arse of a drive home, with a ringing in our ears and smiles on our faces - thanks Devin! Thanks boys!

Twas indeed a good show. Some comments:

1. The sound guy needs to be drawn, quartered and fed to hungry hyenas. Could barely hear the guitars and samples most of the time.
2. No Synchestra?
3. The Ziltoid segment was spectacular!!
4. No Synchestra?
5. I was suprised at how small the crowd was and kept wating for the venue to fill up. Crowd was quite subdued as well, although probably in keeping with Dev's style of music.
6. Merch ran out before DTP even started.
7. No Synchestra? Gaia, Pixellate, Triumph...
8. RVP is a machine.
9. Dev's vocals were spot on.
