I think we are all everyone else. That's pretty cool.

It does somewhat feel like there is a big split between all the forums. And I fully understand that when you first join you want to be noticed by Dev. But it also feels like people join, notice that Dev isn't paying them direct attention, and then just leave the forums. It'd be nice to see some fresh faces a litle more often. (We're pobaby all sick of seeing me by this point.)

Mabe there is a way to entice new members to look in ere and go "Oh hai!"?

Who remembers when Dan was a purely Devin Townsend subforum guy and never came down here? Then he came down here. And all over Abydost.

Just proves that people do venture down here. I always thought that when you join a new forum you need to get a grips on people in General Discussion-y type subforums before filtering into others. I guess Devin's presence does make people stick to that one though.

OR.

We could be really unwelcoming, boring fuckwits.

So y'know, I dunno.

yeah this pace was pretty welcoming when i first showed up.... no need to be mean

I think all "we're better" jokes aside, we would have a much more active General Discussion forum if more of the people who only lurked the Devin Townsend subforums would venture this way. I know from time to time we have stragglers find their way here and realize that the regulars are welcoming, but it's not all that often.

Well to be fair, while no one here is mean at all (well we all were to Nightshine, but that kid was a douche), it can be pretty hard to get a word in edgewise, since most of you guys are pretty routine with your small, tight-knit internet social circle. It's probably intimidating to the newer folk.

I know what you mean, I'm getting the impression that they're becoming two separate communities. There's us, the cool guys, who post random cool stuff in the "General Discussion". Then there's them, the anal fanboy kids (newbies usually), who only post in "Devin Townsend", asking if there's any news about {new album, album after that, live album, tour, gigs, festivals, vinyl, guitars, drummers, ...} every 2 minutes.

I think I'm getting a bit annoyed with the latter. I'm not worried though, most of them don't come here anyway so I doubt anyone will read this.

And what is a "newbie" supposed to think, upon reading something such as this, eh?
Somebody who has recently discovered Devin's work may wish to inquire about his activities; given that he is so active at the moment. That is why we have sections (like any Board): so people can find and participate in various aspects that appeal to them, and not feel excluded and ignored by some emerging elitist clique.

Not everyone who joins is an expert on all things Dev - 5 minutes after they first arrive. :o

This. I'm still a bit wary of posting too much as I'm still a total noob 'round here, but I'm willing enough to stick around & give it time. I'll be part of the circle someday. ;)

It may be tight-nit, but it isn't impenetrable, really. It's not like anyone sees a person's join date and subsequently adds them to the Ignore List post-haste! Sher everyone here was a n00b at some stage, battling their way through the in-jokes and excessive homoeroticism. :P

Also lold at the memory of Nightshine.

Leechy's right, if you're alright, and don't go out of your way to appear as a proper twatface, there's no reason that a n00b can't integrate into the general discussion and not just whore the rest of the board. Granted, as Octillus said- yes it can be hard to get a word in edgeways with certain folks, but it's the same on every active forum on the internet. There's always cliques and particular groups. And yeah there is a divide here, all of a sudden it's got more and more noticeable.

I thought it was bad that after two years of lurking, most of my posts are here, and it's rare I post elsewhere on the board...If I post at all :P

well, it's no one's business in which forums anyone posts and there's nothing wrong with posting in Devin related threads only. There's no rule that says 'if you want to participate in this forum, you have to post in the general discussions forum too.' Everyone is welcome on here.

Maybe I don't understand the point of this recurring discussion. Why does it even matter to anyone where someone posts on an internet forum? I belong to some other music forums and I rarely post in their General Discussion, if at all. I'm there to read about the bands' news and what happenings, and I'm simply not interested in integrating myself into their general collective. I also don't get flak from the regular users about it either, which is nice, because if I did I'd certainly be put off by it.

Anyway...best wedding cake ever. Ever!
