Very saddened by your news, Oct. My condolences to you and your friend's family.

Thank you for your condolences. I haven't seen him in a few years, so that makes it all the more surreal.

He took on a job working for Norwegian Cruiselines, and I guess in Hawaii he and some of the crew were just kickin' it and decided to go swimming.

Bad idea.

He was one of the nicest, funniest, and most charming people I have had the pleasure of hanging out with and I feel terrible for his mom.

Sorry to hear this as well dude. Very sad.

Don't ever underestimate the dangers of water. I'm not afraid of many things but I do have a healthy fear and respect of water.

That's horrible. It sounded like he was just getting on his way to a solid career too...

Polish governmental plane with president and 87 other people onboard crashed in Russia today. Apparently nobody survived - there was a ton of important people there aside of president and his wife - lots of deputies, members of army command, governor of central bank etc.

There was plenty of politicians I didn't agree with there, but somehow it isn't the way I wanted them to go. Ranks pretty high on list of most fucked up things happening in this country during my life :|

Man. That's one of the saddest and most chaotic and terrible and potentially destabilizing things I've heard of happening in a good long while.

I don't know what else to say, because everything comes out slightly inappropriate, especially with the condolences to your people I wish to send.

Agreed. It's a complete and utter tragedy that something like this happened. What's even worse is that it could have happened to any country in the world.

It's pretty unreal, watching news sites feels like a grim joke, it's like twenty years worth of VIP deaths squeezed into a single day. I guess we can expect some political dickery in following months, not to mention lots of conspiracy theories (president was a bit anti-russian, most people on the plane were from the biggest conservative party, being main opposition in the parliament etc). Not to mention the overhelming irony that their destination was celebration of the 70th anniversary of Katyn massacre, where the core of Polish army were executed - the plane had main commanders of navy, land, special and air forces onboard.

I guess everything will stabilize pretty quick, we're much more civilized that we care to admit.

Probably, but you would think they would have better things to do than sticking Polonium 210 in cups of tea at London hotels as well.

Well a plane crash is a little too overt for the folks pretending it's still the cold war.

Yep, besides, Polish-Russian diplomatic relations were getting better lately, can't see why this should be profitable for anyone.

Dropping fucking radioactive material in someone's cup of tea in the middle of another nation's capital city is hardly subtle. As assassination methods go, it is possibly the most balls-out ostentatious I have ever heard of outside of a James Bond movie.

Although shooting that Bulgarian dude with a ricin-poisoned pellet from an umbrella-gun in the middle of Westminster bridge is pretty gnarly.

No-one uses the word gnarly any more, I realise now.

No-one else on here was probably born when Markov was assassinated either (except perhaps Keeker, who has discovered the secret of eternal youth). I wonder if these two things are connected.

I use rad and gnarly all the time.

I grew up in California beach town though.
