Sam Dunn knows how to make music documentaries. Seriously, was entertaining, goofy, and even a bit sad in places, it's a must for anyone who likes Rush.

Only downside, I might be like the only guy in the whole world that loves both Hold Your Fire and Presto, and it seems like they pretty much just glossed over that era entirely, well really Power Windows through Test for Echo, but those are the two albums from that era that I REALLY like.

That's too bad, I really like them too. Presto contains 'The Pass' which in my opinion is the best song ever, from anyone. Maybe they didn't want to focus on the synth era too much since they're back to guitar-driven songs now?

Turn around and walk the razer's edge!

But seriously, even if they were avoiding synth, Presto, Roll the Bones, Counterparts, and Test for Echo all really didn't hold synth.

True. But I haven't seen the documentary yet so I can't say what they were or weren't trying to show. Looking forward to seeing it though.

Predators - went into it expecting something halfway decent, got something ¾-way decent.
Had a good cast who all worked well with the material given. Adrien Brody is no Arnie, but he makes a good substitute. Lawrence Fishburne's character however is the most interesting on offer. Topher Grace thankfully doesn't bring the curse of Spider-Man 3 into his character, but it takes awhile before his colors really show.
A thin but otherwise fine story, flawed only by scenes too derivative of the original. That said, at least these sequences were not as bad/insistent as the AVP atrocities. However, one part made me cringe; it doesn't matter how good an actor you are, only Arnie can get away with "DO IT NOW!!!"
The visuals and action scenes delivered the goods, though the fireball effects were a bit miss for me. At first I was unsure with the thermal vision, but I figure since these are a different species of Predator, they would have different weapons, technology, etc. And they are some ugly motherfuckers. Only the dog aliens seemed OTT, but they were fun.
Really the film only suffers from slow points that seemed to drag instead of build suspense, though this becomes less evident by the third act (one action scene experiences this lethargy IMO though - I won't reveal). Still, it was handled with competence, and got nice and gory without being sloppy.
I give it a 7/10.

Agree.
Adrian Brody wouldn't have been my first choice as action dude, but he did OK.
I note with interest that the visual effects were done by none other than Ubisoft...
Would have liked to have seen Larry with a bigger role. An odd occurrence is that one scene shown in the trailers down here wasn't in the actual film: a shot of Brody with numerous red targetting lasers aiming at him. Strange.

Liked the use of Little Richard's "Long Tall Sally" over the closing credits. A nice nod to the original film. :)

Predators also. I think that finally there is sequel worthy of original, and cast worked surprisingly well. Personally I would have preferred even more brutal and violent version, something along the lines of latest Rambo but maybe there is going to be unrated directors cut on dvd....? Very nice, much better than expected.

Phone Booth - Feckin brilliant! Was always very skeptical about how they could stretch this into something feature-length but it was absolutely great stuff! Really made me appreciate Colin Farrell as a good actor. He was fantastic in it.

Predators - A sequel well worthy of it's predecessors, I think! I preferred it to Predators 2, though it wasn't quite on par with the old Arnie goodness. Really enjoyed it though, thought the cast worked well but it needed more blood and guts! It was only a 15 rating here so I went in already feeling a bit disappointed that it wouldn't be uber-violent but I guess it wasn't that big of a deal. Definitely recommend it to anyone who liked the original movie.

Next thing I'm looking forward to is that new Chris Nolan movie, Inception... Looks like it could be pretty sweet.

there will be a director's cut for Predators anyways....just because there's a director's cut for just about any movie nowadays.

And yes, Inception should be über-awesome

I actually like Cusack in that. Damn good movie.

Toy Story 3. Loved it, great send off to that part of my childhood.

I saw Toy Story 3 also. I was bracing myself for a crappy money grab of a sequel but it was pretty good compared to the previous two from my childhood. You can sort of spot differences in things that have changed in the ten years or so between the last two though.

Well, it's kinda hard to explain really. There's a bit of an updated feel to it, i think possibly the way they accent the character's actions or something has been slightly altered, I don't know, i'm no CGI expert. It's plausible I guess, since it's been so long I bet there's been a few changes in the lineup of art directors and that sort of thing at Pixar.

But there's obvious things that have been added in too, like a big special effects action film style shot at the beginning, I don't think that would've been in there had they made the film a couple of years after the second.

Took my daughter and her friend to see Eclipse. It was a bit of a surprise in that it was a lot better than the last one. At least, it held my attention for the whole movie. The build up to the big battle was decently done. Girl that plays the lead actress is still pretty wooden, unfortunately.

Hoping to go and see Predators next week though.

Oh yeah, and I saw Inglourious Basterds tonight (I had to go and look up how to spell it wrongly.. pfft.) It was one of those movies that when the ending arrives I think, "Well that was a huge waste of a couple of hours!" I fail to see what all the hype was about. Not impressed.

Leech: Memento is amazing. Nolan really is probably the best filmmaker of the era. I can't think of anyone who remotely comes close to his output in these last ten years except MAYBE Clint Eastwood and the Coen brothers, but those guys have been around for a LONG time. I have high hopes for Jason Reitman, though.

I just completed a double feature the other night of Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid and The Room. Juxtaposing those two is amazing, because jesus christ is Butch Cassidy probably one of the most well-made flicks in terms of tone and pacing ever (Raindrops aside, but it's of its era). Then you look at something like The Room, which is probably a strong contender for the worst movie ever made. It takes itself so seriously and it's also the biggest vanity project I've ever seen. Hell, Tommy Wiseau writes, directs, produces, executive produces (Seriously? You list that twice in the opening sequence?), and stars in this 6-million dollar film. Who the hell financed this thing? Wiseau says he financed it by selling leather jackets imported from Korea. That's INSANE.

Just ignore how it's now marketed as a black comedy, there's nothing gallows humor about this flick, it's just THAT terribly made.
