Ah yes, I've been looking at that one as well. Y'know, right after I finish with Saints Row 2. :D

the only things that aren't amazing about the first Dragon Age are:

A) The visuals, but you shouldn't care about those anyway

and

B) Dear god the Tower of Magi.

If you can play Dragon Ages on a pc instead of a PS3, that would be much better as well. And its definitive recommend for something similiar to Mass Effect.

I'm playing Just Cause 2 at the moment, didnt play the first one. It is an ok game, where the gameplay and its mechanics steal the show. Graphics, story, dialogue... they are not all that great. But there is some fun stuff to do.

My roommate says the combat system was clumsy and awful, though, so I'm a bit worried about that. Anyway, I've checked out most of Bioware's other stuff--I might give Dragon Age a shot, but my roommate has played that and it doesn't seem like I'd be too into it (I guess space is cooler than medieval stuff?). I might give Alpha Protocol a shot, now that you mention it, but what do you mean when you say the gameplay is broken? Just awful controls?

Also, Vanquish on hard mode is awesome. It's such a bizarre game.

the combat in ME1 really works fine. I never had an issue with it at all. The framerate is not as smooth as ME2's framerate but ME1 is a few years old so I guess technical shortcomings compared to ME2 are to be expected. But honestly, if you want the full Mass Effect impact then don't play ME2 again before you played ME1 and then import your character from ME1 into ME2. Believe me, it will be unlike anything you ever experienced in video games before and I think that option alone is a milestone in video game history.

As for Alpha Protocol...when I say the gameplay is broken then I'm talking about the controls and shooting mechanics. It really does not control too well and in the beginning of the game you will have a hard time shooting enemies before you level up your character and unlock certain perks. But if you can look past all that there may be some fun for you in that game. It's not an open world game, yet you can play missions in the order that you prefer and objectives are clearly defined. But ultimately you decide how things play out and there are lots of decisions to make. Like I said, I'd rent it first because it's one of those games that people either love or hate.

You said you like Zelda. Well, then you may enjoy the game 'Darksiders'. It's like a mature version of Zelda, I'd say. Lots of cool puzzles, light RPG elements, dungeons, etc, etc. Check out some video reviews online and see if it's a game you could enjoy. http://www.gametrailers.com/video/revie ... ders/60496 Here's one, for example. I bought it and enjoyed the game very much.

And I think I might give up on Just Cause 1. It's pretty boring, it's glitchy as hell and the controls are awful so I might play The Godfather 2 or Just Cause 2 next.

soundsofentropy wrote:I played some of Fallout 3 (if you'll remember I bought these 3 games at once), though, and so far I am totally disinterested. Yes, the world is big; yes, there are a ton of things to do; yes, you have oh-so-many choices and items you can pick up. But I guess I'm supposed to want to do all the side quests because I'm so eager to play. I did one or two, but eventually, I wanted to move along with the main mission (which follows the story of "Hey, your dad's gone. Oh, he's not here; try somewhere else."). So the journey to Galaxy News was a serious survival fight all the way--and hopefully that's just the tip of the main story.

I hate to make a long and tedious post, and I'll probably give Fallout 3 another chance (might just start over so I don't have to deal with feeling under-leveled the whole game), but I'm curious to see if you guys know any titles like ME2 that have a pretty good balance of action and RPG elements. Fallout 3 seems a little heavy on the RPG for me. Thanks for listening, anyway.

Also, fun fact: I killed Moriarty for the info instead of paying him. Problem?

I'm also just beginning to play this game. It's pretty tough at first but I'm getting the hang of it. I suggest you don't do the News Radio mission that involves replacing the dish at the Washington Monument because if you head south from Dupont Station and discover Rivet City near the bottom of the map you can speak to a doctor that will tell you where he went. You can later go talk to Three Dog and he will add stuff to your reward after you told him you don't need his info :)

Evading the Super Mutants with the automatic miniguns is smart too. I went towards to Monument and snuck all away around the battleground to get to the museum since those guys are pretty fucking tough when you're at a low level. Two or three will just come after you and own you if you cut you're way through to get to the museum.

Edit: Also, this site is useful http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_Wiki For example to answer your question, these things are effected when you kill Moriarty:
Effects of player actions
* If you kill Moriarty, Gob takes over the saloon and changes the name on the sign.
* Once Moriarty is killed, Nova can no longer be hired.

So in my ongoing quest to play older games that are cheaper now, I finally got around to Arkham Asylum.

Holy shit, this is the game I was looking for this entire generation.

I'll talk more about it later, but yeah, what a game.

Something tells me the Australian Thought Police will want to ban/censor this game because the precious children shouldn't be subjected to such realistic violence; and freethinking adults who want this game will again lament the lack of an R18+ rating to prevent children from being able to play it in the first place.

Still, to those who get to play this game uncensored, go for it, looks awesome.

I feel your pain. It's even worse here. At least there's hope for you guys. Sooner or later you'll have an R18+ rating for games and that will solve the issue. Here in Germany we do have an R18+ rating for games but that does not mean anything here. Most violent games still get censored. It's amazing, I'm 28 years old but when it comes to video games I still feel like I'm being treated like an 8 year old. It's frustrating.
The only thing you can do is import uncut games. But the problem is that for most games you won't be able to play the add-on content as the German add-ons are often not compatible with foreign games or are not being released on the German Xbox live market at all. Of course you can create a fake foreign account but stuff that was not released in Germany or is not allowed in Germany for whatever reason usually won't download because German IPs get blocked. Yeah...it ain't a lot of fun to be a gamer here...

Another, probably good, game made by Polish studio, hurrah! Looks a lot like open-world Left 4 Dead, from the description.
