I don't use the PSN all that much, but the loss of personal data is always a tricky annoying situation.

PSN thing is a load of bawls. They've got 75 million people fairly pissed off. Wouldn't have been as bad if they'd just admitted it was hacked a week ago. Fools.

On a pleasant note: ZOMG PORTAL 2

Seriously, I only just started the single player there so I can't go on about that yet but me and Prex finished the co-op storyline earlier and it was probably the most fun I may have ever had with a game. There were the odd argument and the occasional beating but that comes with the territory. :P It was worth the money just for that splitscreen co-op though. I'm gonna try fly through the main storyline in the next day or two and trade it off then by the weekend and hopefully make back most of the money I spent on it. Then it's on to Mortal Kombat! Which I'm trying to not play because I have my final exams starting May 5th and a distraction like that is the last thing I need!

My son nagged me into playing Portal 1 on the computer today. I had to stop after an hour as I got terrible motion sickness. Also I didn't get very far. I spent twenty minutes doggedly trying to break into what I thought was meant to be some secret room behind a corrugated glass window up on the wall. My son came back in and watched for a minute and then asked why I was doing that when I was meant to go out the door across the room. I thought I'd just come in that way. I have no idea how to get my bearings in these places. Also it would help if I knew at the start what it was I was supposed to be solving and to what purpose. :? It doesn't seem very logical so far. I will have another shot at it maybe tomorrow and see if it makes more sense but if I get barfy again then I'm going to have to give up on it.

good idea. Because the challenge tower alone would keep you from even touching a book, trust me. Very addictive and fun as hell.

I'll be getting both Portal 2 and Mortal Kombat soon. Preferably when there's a bit of a price drop and when I get 100% in Just Cause 2. Although that will never happen since that game is SO FRIGGIN' HUGE. But it's still a lot of fun to ruin a country by steering military jets into everything...

...waaaiiit...

Yes, and it was a really fun game. Too short, but soooo much fun. And gorgeous. And the sound was PERFECT.

So I played a few rounds of the new Mortal Kombat last night, and it was pretty good.
I really disliked the X-ray move, as they really kill the momentum of a fight, I dislike having to wait for the animation to finish. The combat system felt a bit sluggish, but thats mostly my fault for being bad at the game.
It's a good game, but not for me basically, and I'm sure I'll enjoy the rounds I play whenever I visit a friend with the game.

Going out to buy Dragon Age 2 tonight, as it's on sale right now.

I really like the x-ray moves. Yes, on Beginner difficulty they make no sense as you will tear your opponents apart anyways but on harder difficulties they can save your ass and give you a bit of time to breathe. And it's satisfying when your opponent tries to tear you up with an x-ray move and you just dodge or block it and then perform yours on him

Anyways...I'm still greatly enjoying the game and have done most of the things that you can do solo. Played through all 300 challenges of the challenge tower. What a blast! Very challenging, sometimes frustrating but all the more satisfying when you beat a tough one. The reward is a bit on the 'meh' side (just a costume for Mileena that makes her look almost naked...might be awesome for 12 year olds) but it's been fun to get through all of them and you get 2 trophies in the end and several more on the way.
There's also the classic hidden fights from the old MK games. Most of them are easy to trigger but getting to the fight against classic Jade is a bitch. So yeah, this one's definitely on my 'games of the year' list. It may not be for everyone and apparently Street Fighter die hard fanboys won't love it anyways. But for me they couldn't have done it better.
I grew up with the MK games. I was 11 when the first MK game came out and my parents were kind enough to buy it for me although it was obviously not suited for someone of my age. And they did have an eye on me each time I played it, heh. I didn't have my own TV back then anyways. They even drove all the way to Würzburg with me (I know you like that town, Stoney) to buy MK2 and MK3 for me because no store in my town had them. Oh man, those were the good old days. :)

Well it think mechanically it is fine, but just as a game, and a fighting one, it's kinda annoying to basically have to sit and watch while you cannot do anything. And as I said I have not mastered the game for sure, so counters and blocks are a long ways away for me.

Still a very much improved product over MK versus DC.

just make sure it does not interfere with your exams!!

(mom mode off)

glad you dig it too, mate! :D There really is a shitload of stuff to unlock and do in this game. I'm looking forward to hear what you think of the challenge tower.
Oh and I started replaying the story again, heh.

I did the first ten things on the Challenge Tower a while ago alright, but spent most of the day doing two-player one-on-one or tag matches with Prex (who talked me into it, the bitch :P) and my little brother. We're all lovin' it. :D

Edit: Just finished Portal 2's single-player storyline there. Started playing at 9:30 (it's now 4:30... ) so it's taken 7 hours to get through for me anyway. The co-op was way more challenging than the single-player, I think, but the twists and turns along the way in the main storyline were brilliant. The people giving out about the short length are taking the piss, in my opinion. I also doubt anyone could get through that in 4 hours! It's a fairly long story campaign, even if it is a good bit easier than the first Portal game. The co-op and single player storyline combined would easily be 20+ hours of gameplay for most people, which is a perfectly acceptable length for a game to be to justify the price.

:zzzz:

Portal 2's story isn't short, the game is just short. I think it's just a....structural shortcoming? I don't know how to word it, but basically the way the game is made to be means that the puzzles are short and sweet, but if they were to lengthen the game it'd just be adding more test chambers etc in there and really just adding more of what's already there, stretching it out and adding in filler. Which to me, is not what games, especially Valve's, are about. They put a lot of effort into getting quality gameplay that lengthening it like that would just detract from the overall quality.

saw Portal 2 in a store today, friend of mine played it a bit. It was the Xbox 360 version. Looked cool but one thing was weird. There was quite a bit of screen tearing or something like that. I don't know, strange visual hick-ups. Not sure if it was the game or the TV but that kinda bugged me. Anyways, considering how short this game is supposed to be I don't think I'd want to pay the full price for it. I'll either wait till it's cheaper over here or I'll order it in good old Great Britain. I'm sure it's a blast when you play it co-op with a buddy and that is mainly what I want it for.

in other news. I beat the arcade ladder in Mortal Kombat on expert difficulty without losing a fight. Badass 8) Good thing I did the whole challenge tower before attempting that. I think that helped!
