The place to speak about Dev's current projects, and everything yet to come

That just seems really odd to me. One of the reasons for the long delay since the first announcement was because Dev had them make changes, and had a new prototype built. Why go back to the original design? That may very well be the case, but it just seems strange.

Hopefully Dev can shed a little light on what's going on.

I'm thinking that the pic Derek posted earlier vvvvvvv

is what the final product is going to be from everything that my rep at Sweetwater said he had information on. Plus he went and talked with Peavey on all the questions I had (he even wrote them all down to make sure they got answered) and he called back like within 30 minutes because who he talked with at Peavey was really forth coming and answered all my questions. Sweetwater said I should expect it in August, I'm assuming because the guitars are just beginning production now and with it being a 1st run there could be some hurdles.

Granted all this could be wrong as there hasn't been an official announcement for the guitar since 2009-2010 and Peavey could come out on June 20th be like Surprise Bitches!!! Which is scary for me since I took a leap of faith on the guitar by putting in the special order as in doing so I bought it no matter what happens and if I decide that I don't want it I'll be paying a huge re-stocking fee. I think Sweetwater did say if it changed and there did end up being 2 models I would just have to chose which one I wanted.

But I can't see returning it cause I'm so excited for this thing to show up!!!! First thing I plan to do is re-string it with D'Addario 10-52s and a 60 tuned to Open B as I am using my Jim Root tele sig as my Open C tuned guitar. And it's my 1st 7-string.

Just got a confirmation from the product manager at Peavey; the guitar in the photo is in fact the one they are due to start shipping. I was also told that the guitar will "likely" have a standard tuning (BEADGBE) and not Devin's normal tuning of open C (GCGCGCE); waiting for confirmation, however. Either way, I'm sold.

Price is $1999.99 MSRP / $1199.99 street

Man, it just scares me that Dev said there were two guitars. I'd hate for it to be something like "Here's the Devin Townsend Signature Guitar!," and then a few months later go "Hey, here's the limited edition, souped-up Devin Townsend Signature Guitar that is 10 times better than that first one! We had it all along, suckers!"

Methinks Peavey is going to test the waters with this one. Signature series guitars are a tough gamble for just about any guitar builder these days...just look at the number of signature instruments that Ibanez dropped from this year's showing versus last year's (and why Steve Vai's white JEM has remained in production for over 15 years...cause it's the one that sells the most). The only way to get a company to release specialty instruments is to buy the ones that they do put out.

Also, the only thing (IMO) that would make the guitar 10 times better would be if it were handcrafted in the USA and the paint contained samples of Devin's DNA...but that would make the instrument cost over $4000.00 and I have NO desire to ever purchase a guitar for over $2500 (as they are highly overrated, IMO).

When I was playing in bands, I always had at least two, but had as much as 10 at one time. Some started collecting dust, so I decided to trade them in for equipment. Then I narrowed it down to two solid bodies, a 12-string acoustic/electric, and a little Fernandes Nomad practice guitar. Now that I don't play in bands, I just need one solid body.

I've always wanted a flying V, but never owned one. I've always wanted a 7-string, but never owned one. I figure I can kill two birds with one stone here. lol

I usually don't buy a guitar without playing it first, but I'll make an exception this time. lol

This.

Also, what does it matter what tuning the guitar ships with?

Just more setup work. :P

I'd prefer if the guitar were setup to open C out-of-the-box; being a signature guitar, it'd be nice if it were actually tuned to the artist's normal tuning. I mean, I understand that Peavey would want to appeal to a wider audience with a standard tuning. However, the whole point of having a 28" scale neck (if I am not mistaken) is to give decent amount of tension to the low G without having to use a telephone wire.

I think since he has two 7 strings that he uses live (minimum) I would guess one is in Open C and the other is in Open B. I think I remember seeing a picture or video of one of the head stocks and there is a piece of tape along the side with the 4 tuning machines that shows the tuning for that guitar but I couldn't read. I'll see if I can find it.

Found the pic here: http://www.hevydevyforums.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=68&t=10076#p260221

But I can't read the label  But it does show off the Glowy side markers well

Hey guys, the one in the photo is the one. The side markers will be a bit different, but that's the one.

Through it all, the next guitar I've been working on with them is a Tele like my old ESP.

Sorry for any confusion...it's a fun guitar, been playing it for almost 2 years, it's pretty big!
