It was alright, but nothing too special.
Good effects, decent story. Lacking in female actors though.

Guess I should add it was the 1982 version, and I had never before seen it.
If you don't grok it, drokk it!
The last movie I saw in theaters was X-Men: First Class, a little over a few weeks ago. Really good, loved James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender in their roles, they were perfect. It was pretty cool to see Kevin Bacon as the villain, he was good too. Everyone else was good as well, although there was one part I didn't like and that was when the young mutant recruits were hanging out in their lounge on the campus demonstrating each others powers, and they get attacked by the evil mutants. I hate how they just acted helpless the entire time, they sat there screaming when the evil mutants came in and attacked everyone. I mean they have superpowers too! At least use em', jeez! Other than that I thought it was one of the best superhero movies to date, not quite up there with The Dark Knight but almost.
Gonna see Transformers: Dark of the Moon possibly this weekend, so I'll give my opinion on that if I do.

Fair enough.
There seems to be some sort of issue with ageing when it comes to films of that era that also have their fair share of special effects (although you said the effects were decent). The Thing, Star Wars, Alien etc. All considered classics by many (myself included). But I've had a bunch of experiences with people seeing them for the first time recently, rather than when they came out, where they just weren't that impressed.
I still get to love them though, so it's all good.
Hmm, Transformers 3, is it worth watching? Still wondering if I should watch Transformers 2. I thought the first one was ugh. But I don't know, apparently this one has been quoted by critics as good and "Michael Bay learns from his past mistakes with this sequel" blah blah blah.
Anyway last movie I saw was True Lies. I loved it. Saw it was more comedy than action. I found myself laughing more than focusing on Arnie's action scenes to be honest

For the Universe is dark and full of Planet Smashers...
The Thing is awesome, and all John Carpenter movies from Assault on Precinct 13 through They Live are a bit odd in lighting and tone, but still rad as hell.
Transformers: Dark of the Moon
Good things:
The last 45 - 60 minutes are the best of the franchise by a mile.
They actually did Shockwave justice... sort of... ish...
John Malkovich.
Bad things:
Still too much Shia LePoof.
Still too much romance shite.
That blonde one's upper lip.
WHAT THE FUCK DID THEY DO TO SOUNDWAVE. AGAIN.
Random attempts at comedy that were just fucking useless.
Overall, this movie proves how great this series could have been if they'd cut the human crap and made a proper, darker storyline out of the robot conflict. Thank fuck for the last hour of this one because for the first hour and a half if was looking like this was gonna be even worse than the first two. I still would keep a wide berth if you don't like Transformers or haven't got any nostalgia to satisfy by seeing it.

agreed...the humor was pretty bad in all 3 of them. Michael Bay should just stick with what he can (special effects and explosions) and leave out everyting else. I just forgot about the first hour and enjoyed the awesome remainder of the movie.
anyways...
watched 2 movies yesterday:
True Grit (2010)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1403865/
now I did enjoy the original movie with John Wayne and have seen it plenty of times but I must say I think the new one is better. What I disliked the most about the original one was Mattie...man, she is incredibly annoying in that movie. That always has kept the movie from being awesome to me personally. Well, that and the very cheesy and cliché ending. Now I must say Hailee Steinfeld did a much, much better job as Mattie, made the character seem much less annoying and did a great job overall. I was pretty impressed, considering she was only 14 then and that this has been her first big movie. And the dude did a great job playing Rooster Cogburn, just as good as the duke did. The ending was much better too, much less cheesy and much less cliché. So yeah, I loved it!
The Wrestler (2008)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1125849/
I was really surprised by this one. It's a pretty unusual Aronofsky flick without the usual mindfucks and weirdness to it but it worked soooo well! And I was surprised that the subject matter was as interesting and compelling as it was. I mean, a drama about a wrestler...that just doesn't sound like the most interesting thing. But Aronofsky really pulled it off. And all the actors did a great job too. Who would have thought that Mickey Rourke could still pull off a performance like that? Pretty amazing. Anyways, I highly recommend this movie.

Minutes, you say?

oops...that might have been a bit short!
That's ok dude. After all, the trailers fit the bill, and tell me all I need to know. I admit to seeing the original and vowing never to return, though the intro in the desert was probably the best thing about it.
Last movie I saw,
Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead. Delivers exactly what you've come to expect from Troma. Bad story, silly acting, gross out effects made from groceries, and cheap laughs all throughout. As it should be.
just wrapped up my movie night. Watched 'The Fountain', 'O brother, where art thou?', 'Brazil' and last but not least one of my absolute all-time favorite movies 'The big Lebowski'. Seen them all multiple times before, still love each of them.

Brazil is my favorite movie of all time, and all of those are great.

Love all of those, except Brazil, which I haven't seen. I'll give it a watch, though!!
Also, I see you like the Coen brothers. Ever see 'Barton Fink', 'A Serious Man', or their remake of 'The Ladykillers'?
I see/own all of those myself.
The Ladykillers is underrated as hell. I love it but it doesn't really compare to most of their work.
It shouldn't be a surprise to anyone who knows me well, I love A Serious Man, a lot!
