Miller's Crossing

fuckin A+ flick. Loved the story, great acting, just the usual Coen brothers sweetness as expected. So not much more to say about that. I watched it on Blu-Ray. It looked pretty good actually but the picture was a tiny bit soft (suppose that's what the source material is like too) and the use of digital noise reduction was very evident but not bothersome by any means. Overall they did a pretty good job with this one.

I'll receive my The Big Lebowski Blu-Ray copy sometime after the 22nd of this month and I just can't fucking wait! I've watched this movie 3 or 4 times this year already but could really watch it at least once a week. And once I'll own this movie in HD I just might do that! Just love it.

In 2 weeks me and my best friend will actually have a movie marathon, half of it will cosist of Coen brothers movies. So far it looks like we'll watch The Big Lebowski, True Grit, Barton Fink, Miller's Crossing and O brother, where art thou. Might try to pick up 'A Serious Man' too because neither of us has seen it yet. As for non-Coen flicks I'm not sure yet. But we may do Tron Legacy and Rango. And I am really interested in 'Crazy Heart' since I love Jeff Bridges and a friend of mine told me it's great so I might try to pick that one up too before the 27th. Fun, fun, fun!

I too share in your great admiration of coen brothers films. I own a copy of almost all of them myself, even blood simple, just lacking Intolerable Cruelty. No amount of money will have me grab that one.

The Hudsucker Proxy is a hugely underrated flick btw.

Gonna have to add Fargo into the mix, one of my fave Coen Bros movies. Would be one of the first picked in a marathon I was watching.

Watched The Road with No Country For Old Men last night, figuring I'd see which McCarthy adapatation I liked better. Whilst I preferred The Road to No Country in respect to the novels, I actually preferred No Country to The Road in terms of the films; No Country had the intensity and the dark atmosphere of the novel tightly woven into the film, and whilst The Road did the same, by comparison it wasn't quite as heavy (mind you, the comparison is a thick as a thread). Still, it made great Sunday night viewing.

we might do Fargo too but I'm not sure if we have enough time since we'll also play some video games, I'm sure. My PS3 needs some rest too now and then! We probably have around 18 to 20 hours, plenty of time but not enough to watch everything we'd like to watch. But that's a good reason to invite him over again!

I. Love. The. Coen. Brothers. Favorite directors of all time. They can do (nearly, we'll overlook Intolerable Cruelty, Ladykillers, and the last 3rd of No Country For Old Men) no wrong. Actually, speaking of No Country, the scene where Llewelyn is killed and Tommy Lee Jones drives up to the hotel where it happened was filmed literally across the street from apartment. If I may make a suggestion to your Coen marathon, watch Bloodsimple. Their first film, it's incredible, a great neo-noir type film. Slightly dated but so, so well done, and totally embodies the theme in so many of their films that the people who deserve the worst get off the best. And on that theme, I should also recommend Burn After Reading. Love it. A Serious Man is one of their harder to watch movies, it's very deep and very different from common film making including their own film making.

As for Crazy Heart, as a film I honestly wasn't that impressed-- pretty run-of-the-mill guy down on his luck movie. But Jeff Bridges is incredible in it as always and carries the movie in my opinion.

As for a movie I just watched, I just saw Exit Through the Gift Shop. Very well done film, whether it's a mockumentary or not. It asks a great question about what is art, what dictates what "good art is," etc. And it was hilarious to boot.

Burn After Reading wasn't so great for me.

I'll definitely give it another go though... My opinions often change after repeated viewings and if anyone deserves it, it's the Coens.

Burn After Reading is worthy of multiple viewings. JK Simmons' face just keeps getting funnier, and I love how John Malkovich looks like he's about to let loose a xenomorph tounge on Brad Pitt in the car scene (just his teeth do it for me).

No Country's final third left me bemused the first time I watched it, as I expected something a bit more substantial, but the subtlety has since grown on me, and I find it appropriate for the film. Of course, if you still crave more quantity, there's always the book (worth reading by its own merits, naturally).

Just saw The King's Speech at the weekend....it was ok, quite entertaining but I definitely think it was overhyped.....I am very picky with movies

Dodgeball Been wanting to see this for ages. Not sure what to make of it yet, but I laughed a lot.

I've watched and commented on the Rocky series, just watching the last one yesterday, having not seen the older ones since they came out basically.
And I found a fondness for Rocky, but the series hits a wek spot (Rocky 4 and 5) that tarnishes what was built up mostly in the first and second movie.
Really is a great series, but the first one really stands on it's own.
The last one was good, but I could not get over the crap in the fifth one, and in the end the movies reflect caracter, both are taken advantage of...

Magnolia ...God damn! The only other Paul Thomas Anderson film I've seen is There Will Be Blood and both have blown me away. If you enjoy thought provoking movies and don't mind them long (it's just over 3 hours), I highly recommend Magnolia.
