Well, as promised, here are my first two horror films of the month. I'll consolidate multiple days into a post every 3 or 4 days so I'm not clogging up the entire thread. Here ya go, copy and pasted from Facebook since I'm too lazy to write twice:

10/1: Today my film was Red Dragon. I guess it's more of a thriller, but hey. A pretty obvious ploy to make more money off Silence of the Lambs, it still has an engaging storyline and the ending twist for the most part takes you by surprise. Well acted as well. However, Hannibal Lector feels shoehorned in, the plot is essentially the same as SotL, and the film fails in developing a potentially fascinating serial killer (whom Ralph Fiennes plays masterfully). 6.5/10

10/2: My horror film of the day today was Dead Snow by Tommy Wirkola. A fun zombie film that doesn't hide it's influences (Evil Dead, namely) like some other zombie films attempt to, it's quite entertaining with it's Nazi take on the undead. In a nutshell, group of college med students go up to mountains, Nazi zombies attack, chaos ensues, people die. Adequate amount of blood for a zombie film with an odd fixation on the multiple uses of intestines and plenty of violent zombie killings, the most memorable of which a zombie being killed with a snow mobile. The Nazi part gave it a cool, different back story and gave another level of evil to the creatures. I also enjoyed the no-light-at-the-end-of-the tunnel ending, because honestly, would anyone survive a real zombie attack? I also enjoyed that the film shook up the formula of who dies when, and it kind of took me by surprise. All in all an entertaining, albeit unoriginal even if acknowledged, zombie flick. 8/10

Horrible Bosses: You know, it was clearly made in the wake of The Hangover's success, but I like all of the actors involved, and it was a fun and easy if not truly amazing movie. Worth watching if you need some cheap laughs.

Well, I think it depends on what you're looking for in a zombie movie. If you're actually a good movie by the traditional sense you'll usually be disappointed with the genre I think. That being said, though, while I enjoy zombie movies I do feel the genre is very over saturated.

Quite a lot of zombie flick fans here. Which clearly means that Devin is looking to raise an army of the undead.

Actually, I have a love of things apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic. Anyone know of any theories as to why it's so entertaining as a genre?

Because you could be a subconscious misanthrope - secretly craving the slate to be wiped and a new genetic order to arise?

Works for me. :drink:

That one's actually pretty fun. A professional golfer with his clubs on the plane takes to the fight at a certain point.

Return of the Living Dead 3 has a girl who's like half zombie and her boyfriend totally still makes out with her.

Halloween 2 (1981)

one of my alltime favorite horror movie sequels. I think it's as good as the first Halloween flick, probably thanks to John Carpenter stepping in and adding a few more scares and more atmosphere to the movie after Rick Rosenthal's original cut apparently was more like a kids movie. Would still be interesting to see that version too though. I watched it on Blu-Ray and although Universal didn't to an amazing job like Anchor Bay when they remastered Halloween 1 it still looks pretty good and much better than any DVD release of the movie. I remember the old days when I was a teenager and had a shitty VHS copy of this movie with horrible quality. So I certainly appreciate this Blu-ray!

I'm in the mood for 70's and 80's horror and slasher flicks. Might have to watch a few Friday the 13th flicks and a few italian horror flicks. Halloween is approaching after all :D

Grave Encounters
What a lackluster poopymcfuckfart of an experience. Although I appreciated how the movie angles these Ghost Hunters-esque reality shows with a cynical eye in the first third of the film, all that goes to the way side for cheap scares and effects that you can find tutorials on YouTube.

The Dead
A really good love letter to the original Romero zombies. I love how the film crafts them into being omnipresent, regardless of what environment the character is in. Not much dialogue or banter, but there shouldn't be any. Survival is their main priority, not idle chatter.
