So much TV I must watch over break. Breaking Bad Season 4 (MUST catch up) Dexter Season 5 (heard this season sucked, but MUST catch up. Sadly I have to watch this with the girlfriend as we're watching together, so probably won't be watching that), etc.

Been watching Frasier, Storage Wars (I hate myself), Arrested Development, and How I Met Your Mother lately, the latter of which has to be one of the funniest shows I've ever seen. There hasn't been a sitcom since Seinfeld worthy of that lofty level, but man... How I Met Your Mother gets damn close.

yeah, I think the last HIMYM season I have seen was the 6th season and that one was kind of sad (or tried to be) and not funny.

I never much cared for it. It was nice enough, and not bad, but the CBS style of sitcom has not and will not work for me ever. Same goes for The Big Bang Theory, and any other sitcom which may be relatively decent... it's just not how I process Comedy.

Give me the FX approach any day.

True, but I don't want to see it :P I just found those bits incredibly dull.

See, I think the family dynamic is my favorite part beyond the relationship between Walt and Jessie.

Well, except for the tension with a certain other someone. But we won't speak about that til Lars and Sean get there.

And me, thanks very much!

Part way into Season 3 but have been rather busy of late. Hoping to resume BB enjoyment soon.

My two cents on Season 2 - I really enjoyed the family tension stuff. Completely understand why his wife would carry on like a complete bitch. Well, aside from the cigarette scene. I nearly broke the TV when that happened. I also enjoy hearing the word "fugue".

Sorry for the double post, but I must concur. I can't abide the majority of modern US sitcoms in the vein of Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, Rules of Engagement etc. I must admit I do like Modern Family. Curb Your Enthusiasm is great and The Office can be good, despite being dragged on and on in typical US sitcom fashion. Sadly the best of the lot, Party Down, only made it through two seasons.

People keep telling me that BBT and HIMYM are funny and I've tried several times to watch them but... nope, can't do it.

This post was filmed in front of a live studio audience.

I love old sitcoms. I worshipped Happy Days years ago. I went to school dressed like the Fonz everyday for so long that they contacted my parents telling them I had to stop. The Munsters were great. Sanford and Son is awesome. Good Times was the shit. Moving forward a bit, News/Radio was amazing, 3rd Rock From The Sun is good in small doses. Now I hate most sitcoms. The Office use to be good, but got old. Parks & Rec FUCKING OWNS. Community is good. Other than that, most of 'em suck.

Yeah not a huge fan of CBS sitcoms myself, just HIMYM. Big Bang Theory has a few, and I mean A FEW, moments, and Two and a Half Men blows so much ass. Haven't seen the most recent season of HIMYM. other than that I really like Modern Family and the Office, even though I agree its been drug too far. That being said, the current season of the Office is surprisingly funny.

With the exception of Modern Family, I generally ignore US sitcoms these days; after the 90's quality just went downhill fast. No surprise I suppose since the noughties brought in the era of remakes and the making of new ideas as derivative as possible.

Great US sitcoms that are relatively current:
Louie (can it be called a sitcom? Fuck if I know, watch it)
Party Down (amazing. Sad that it's gone, but they're going to do a low budget movie to cap the whole thing off)
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (Season 5 was kinda mediocre by their standards, and it's all been not quite what it was since season 3/4, but it's still fucking great)
Parks and Recreation
The League (fucking surprising. Do not care for American Football, let alone fantasy football, doesn't matter, the lengths they go to in order to dick each other over is amazing.)
Better Off Ted (RIP)
And if you count Children's Hospital, count it.

There are other shows that amuse me, but nothing I go out of my way to sit down and watch.

A Party Down movie? That makes me extraordinarily happy!

Louis CK is a god, so I'd love to check out Louie one day.

IASIP looks great, got that in the queue at home.

Of the oldies I still love Seinfeld and can happily watch reruns over and over. George is one of tv's truly great characters. I love the naivety and nostalgia value of The Cosby Show. I worshipped that show as a kid. Made a skinny white Aussie kid wish he was an upwardly mobile African American New Yorker son of a basement gyno.

Have you checked out his stand-up special he just released? $5 DRM-free download off of his website and it's pretty hilarious like everything he does.

It's funny stuff, hey? Not quite up to the standards of Shameless I reckon, but most definitely worth the fiver. Apparently he's already made half a mil from it already which is pretty encouraging for the download business model. No distribution costs, no manufacturing costs. Make it cheap, make it easy to download, sounds like a win/win situation. Of course, not everyone has Louis CK's profile to help push sales but it makes more sense than insisting on charging $30-odd for an hour of (admittedly awesome) entertainment.
