DeadHeads - 2 dead humans get reborn as zombies, using a different strain of the zombie viral - so they maintain thier human characteristics.. except theyre dead.. and so pretty invincible to gunshots and limb losing - something which happens alot.. except one of the zombie buddies finds an engagement ring in his pocket and assumes he was going to propose to his girlfriend right before he died...

they then go on the road to find his missing love.

its a good film.. which plenty of 'Bruce Campbell-isms'... who not only gives a review on the back of the dvd case, but semi-cameo's in it, as the film cleverly crowbars in scenes from Evil Dead (whilst at a drive thru movie)

its a good comical zombie flick, with the occassional habit of turning into a smooshy mess.. and im not meaning, pile of brains.. im talking romancey.. gaww true love n all that horse.

still, its good fun.. good for a group of friends.. soemthing for the blokes - headshots and good comedy zombies - and females - romance n tripe n stuff... stereotypically speaking of course. i dont want to get labelled for sexism.

The Hangover part 2 Wasn't expecting too much and that's what I got, mediocre at best.

Cowboys & Aliens again and this time director's cut. Somehow now the whole idea was much easier to digest, so maybe cowboys and aliens do mix

And finally Setup, now this was complete and utter bullshit. How they ever got Bruce Willis in it, that I would like to know. Avoid.

Some movies I've watched over last months, in random order

Death and the maiden - bit of an old one (1994). Has about three people starring, including Ben Kingsley as a guy tied to a chair and Sigourney Weaver as an avenger with no underwear (which is in Ben Kingsley's mouth at some point). Good movie about revenge and forgiveness, if you're into this kind of thing.

The man from earth - movie with no budget or action. Akin to the flick above, whole thing happens pretty much in one room - altough with less tension and with underwear staying on place. Everything spins around guy confessing to his friends he's 14000 years old and being pretty convincing with that. Looks really amateurish sometimes, both acting-wise and technically (filmed with amateur camcoders I think), but the storytelling is enough to keep attention. Screenplay by Jerome Bixby (posthumously, he's mostly known from Twilight Zone/Star Trek scripts), only familiar face in the cast was Tony Todd, that dude from Candyman/Dawn of the Dead.

The Thing (2011 one) - a prequel, decent idea. CGI effects are much less disturbing the original ones though. Good enough.

Taken - Liam Neeson saves his daughter from hands of human traffickers and stabs hundreds people in the process. Pretty silly but satisfying.

Why you do this - documentary about a life of an underground metalhead, made by a member of Car Bomb. Most of it is depressing, double depressing when considering it's about US scene, which I thought was pretty good place to play heavy stuff. Basically paints a picture of wasting tons of time and money driving around the country and playing for handful of disinterested people. My favourite scene - one of the acts they played with was a guy who screamed horribly to the crappy tracks blaring from ipod strapped to a plastic dog. It tries to end on a bit brighter note showing (and interviewing) more successul acts like Gojira or Lamb of God and adding something about leaving a legacy etc but well it still leaves pretty bitter aftertaste. It's free to watch on youtube if you have a spare hour.

Paranormal Activity 3 Same but different, gives some background to earlier movies so basically this is prequel. I liked the concept of the first movie, suspense is created with very slight and easy fx so that viewer's imagination does most of the work. That is really how it should be, and with this third part there is some of that left even if story is getting bit old now. Not too long either, but still I would not recommend to anyone with adhd.

The second one was horridly horrid.

Eh, I thought the second one was passable. Not that good, not that bad.

As for what I saw recently, I saw Robocop for the first time in my Sci-fi class. It was freakin' awesome. Loved it.

Repo Man, from 1984 - Emilio Estefez is fired from his job, loses his girl to his best friend and finds out that his hippie parents have sent his trust fund money to a televangelist. Disillusined and angry he eventually falls in with a crowd of Repo Men, all of whom have very definite ideas as to how best to do the job.
Meanwhile a Scientist is seemingly losing his mind while driving across country in a beat up old car with "something" in the trunk. A something that the Repo men are hired to find and retrieve.

This movie is pretty much chaos from start to finish. There's government agents, UFO Cultists, shed-loads of old school LA Punk music and it builds to a truly epic conclusion. An old friend of mine had been at me for years to watch this. Strangely enough the final scene actually reminds me of the title track from "Ghost".
In my opinion the world needs more movies like this one.

Apocalypse Now theatrical version on Blu-Ray. Finally got around to watching my copy. It's been many years since I've seen this version, having become accustomed to only Redux being available, but I remember it being better, and I still find it better than Redux. More intense story pacing, and has a stronger feeling of darkness by not having all those extra scenes slowing down the journey. I don't find Redux bad however, just lighter by comparison, and I prefer this movie dark.
The video transfer and audio quality are superb. I'm sure Redux will have the same transfer qualities as well, when I get around to it. I'll probably have to set aside a day to watch the features though.

Drive on BD. Very cool, Heat and History of Violence comes to mind if thinking about similar movies. Most of the time very subtle, violence very ugly and brutal. Highly recommended.

watched Zombieland and The Frighteners with enabled audio commentaries. 'Twas a lot of fun! Quite a bunch fun facts that I did not know about prior to last night. Like the fact that Peter Jackson filmed that awesome lawn mower scene from Braindead on his birthday. Must have been the best birthday ever! :D

BD of The Shining, which is the longer version of the film, which I haven't seen in a long time. Glad to own this as I consider the longer version superior (even if Kubrick felt differently). The character dynamics are more solid, the story is more consistent, and you get more emotionally invested. Not to mention the look and sound are beautiful. I don't mind if the features are identical to the DVD copy, I'm keeping both so as to have two versions to watch at my leisure, which is justification enough to own both formats.
