Received a letter from the US this week addressed to AUSTRIA, RALEA.

I can imagine the conversation.

"They're from Australia."

"Oh ok, lemme write that down... AUSTRIA."

"No no no. Like Austria but with ralia on the end."

"AAAAAHHH, now I get it! AUSTRIA, RALEA."

"Fuck it, close enough."

Euuughhhh, I used to live only a couple of hours south of there and I was always afraid I'd see spiders like that. I'm not the kind of person to squeal at bugs in my loo and things like that but biiiig spiders make me feel more than nervous. That is really interesting though, it's surprising that web held them both.

Just come to the southern states. The worst thing down here would be drop bears.

I love that idea that we're all fighting off wild animals on a daily basis.

I do have a resident huntsman spider in my garage at the moment and it's maybe 10cm or so across. Spends most of its time guarding my fishing rods for me, which is cool. I'll see if I can post a pic.

EDIT: Here tis.

heck, I'd move away! Or I'd have to train a pet wombat to fight off spiders while I sleep! Kudos to all you Aussies who have to deal with such huge spiders. I'm already scared of small, harmless ones

 As you can tell from the proximity of my hand to the spider, she's not exactly going out of her way to hunt me down and peel my skin off in my sleep. She just sits there chilling... Or whatever it is spiders do when they aren't eating bugs. Formulating equations? Devising new vegetarian alternatives to beef stroganoff? What do I look like, a spider whisperer? Get off my lawn!

Spiders are generally safe in my flat, unless I find them in my bathtub when I need a shower. It's not my fault they can't swim.
