Do you count Children of Men? Because if so, push everything back one (though I still enjoy Moon more)

oops, right. I forgot about it although I looked through my sci-fi Blu-rays before posting :P Then Sunshine has to go. Simply because it borrows a little too much from Event Horizon in the end, although I think it is a terrific movie. And hey, 4th place is still good! :D

Is Drive sci-fi? :thanks:

Moon is amazing, I'll be watching that one many times in the coming years and I still think it's a crime that Rockwell wasn't even NOMINATED for an Oscar. I'd have Children of Men and Moon in a dead heat at the top, with District 9 below them. Then there'd be a pack including Equilibrium, Sunshine, Inception and I'm sure there are one or two I've forgotten. The Book of Eli was enjoyable, if only to see Fallout's visual stylings turned into a movie.

They're probably a little too far on the fun side of things for such a list, but Star Trek was really nicely done and Hitchhiker's was a decent spin on a childhood favourite (and an uber-classic book/radio series/tv series, of course). Tron: Legacy looked gorgeous and Wall-E is just one the most beautiful films ever made (in my shitty opinion).

Still dunno if I like or hate Prometheus. Or both.

Ah, Event Horizon! I went in to the cinema with no idea what it was about (rare for me) and fuck me it had some creepy moments!

Do you see??? DO YOU SEEEEE?????

oops, forgot about Equilibrium too although I just ordered that on Blu-ray yesterday or so. Must be oldtimer's disease. Terrific movie too and I'm a real sucker for Dystopian Sci-Fi. As a matter of fact I almost ordered the japanese release of Equilibrium because I love that movie so much and it's the best version on the market so far. But that would have cost me 90 Euros...eeeek.
Inception is a great movie too. I've only watched it once so far though. Had the Blu-ray ever since it was released and since I'm on a sci-fi roll right now I guess I should finally watch it on BD too.

and regarding Tron: Legacy. Even if that one got a lot of negative reactions, I don't care. I love it. It's a visual orgasm and one of the most amazing things I've ever seen on BD.

And I really love Event Horizon too. Sam Neill is just freaking awesome in that flick.

I know, I like Sam Neil but who knew he could do batshit insane so well? I'm with you on Tron: Legacy. It just looks so lush, and it's got that Daft Punk soundtrack (I don't care that it's "repetitive", it works).

I only discovered Equilibrium last year - what a hidden gem. A bit like Idiocracy in that it never got the attention it deserved at the time.

Equilibrium is quite phenominal. Christian Bale as stoic badass who brings down dystopian society because he wuvs the ickle puppy. :D My kind of man indeed.
What makes the Japanese version so exceptional as to warrant such a price tag?

I'd have to say my favourite Sci-fi movie currently is Southland Tales. Something about that film really struck me where it counts.

Oh, and on the subject of Sam Neill doing Batshit insanity you really must check out Possession from 1981. Himself and particularly the leading lady Isobel Adjani are truly breathtaking in what is one half messy divorce drama and one half existential nightmare. Like a punch in the stomach kind of breathtaking. Definitely the most intense performance I've ever seen from a lead pair, so much so that I've assumed physical and psycological damage must have been sustained by one or both during filming.

the Japanese Blu-ray bests all other versions of Equilibrium when it comes to picture quality. Sony released it and they know what they're doing, their Blu-ray releases are usually quite amazing. Everything is more expensive in Japan and the shipping costs are insane, that's why it would have cost me 90 Euros. The picture quality of the Italian Blu-ray release of Equilibrium is almost identical to the pq of the Japanese release though and it only costs 9 Euros on Amazon.it. So that was an easy decision and I ended up ordering that :D

it's one of my alltime favorite movies and I want it to look as good as possible on BD! :D

so yeah, if you ever happen to find this http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Equilibrium-Blu-ray/4629/#Overview for little money then don't hesitate for a second and pick it up!

Comment time!

Drive - not for everyone, but I enjoyed it. Not a movie I'd watch regularly nonetheless.

Prometheus - going to see it a third time tonight on a friend's (free) spare ticket, and he doesn't want to go alone. After tonight, I will not watch this film again until the Blu-Ray is released.

Brazil - reading notes about the director's cut, I realized my Blu-Ray doesn't mention director's cut on the cover. Checked the running time, 143 minutes. Oh thank fuck.

Event Horizon - the only good Paul WS Anderson film. And yeah, I love the gory and creepy aspects about it. Sam Neill is awesome. Check out Daybreakers if you want to see him as an eerie corporate vampire. "What makes human blood so good? Fear."

Moon - FUCK YEAH! That is all.

well, all the Event Horizon talk made me watch the movie, heh. Still as great as it was back in '97. And yes, it's the only really good Paul WS Anderson movie. Altough Death Race wasn't all that bad either.

"Where we're going, we won't need eyes to see...." Fuckin' A!

I watched about the first 10 minutes of The Three Musketeers and kept waiting for the punchline. Fuck me it was awful.

Thankfully it was on DVD so I could switch it off. If I'd been in the cinemas it would have been my first ever walk-out.

that one looks really awful indeed. But there's at least one good thing about Paul WS Anderson. He ain't Uwe Boll!

*Shudder... I actually paid to see "House of the Dead". By the time half an hour had passed the majority of the people in the cinema had walked out and the rest of us were openly heckling the screen. Good times, though for all the wrong reasons.
