Total remake of Shane, which I would pick over it. Worst part of it was the soundtrack, which was beyond irritating. I know you want to be a real human being, now shut up and let me watch the damn scene. Ryan Gosling's quiet bad ass thing too I didn't buy... why the hell would the lonely housewife next door think he was anything but a creepy serial killer?

That being said, despite being totally typical, it was mildly entertaining. And Bryan Cranston was in it, so, ya know, +1.

This is how I feel, but I live in hipster central and it's telling me how great it is every night I'm out.

grrrrr. Apparently the UK release of 'The Cabin in the woods' is faulty so it's not being sold anymore untill they fixed the problem. Meh, I soooo wanted to buy it so I can make it part of my Halloween marathon.

edit: just read that some stores are saying they'll receive replacement discs within the next 2 weeks. Yay!

Well, I'm not saying that it's the greatest shit ever made, but I kinda like the idea of slow pace and sudden bursts of brutal and realistic violence. It's probably going to be one of those movies that I watch at least once a year.

The Thing and The Thing.

Got around to watching my copies of the 2011 prequel back to back with John Carpenter's version. Not only to see how they compare and how faithful the prequel is on second viewing, but also for the sheer pleasure of it.

Still enjoy the prequel it's got some good thrills, though it isn't without its flaws. Really my only complaints are a couple of bad CG shots and
Spoiler: show
the lack of cohesion to the Carpenter film by not showing the Norwegians using thermite to break the ice around the ship - even if to say, that won't be enough, let's dig a tunnel instead.

The Carpenter version is, and in my opinion will always be the definitive version, not much more to say beyond that. A fun way to kill a few hours. And of course, if you haven't seen either but wish to, start with the 1982 version before the 2011 version; otherwise, vice versa won't hurt the experience.

yay. Not quite sure what my first movie will be today but it won't be The Cabin in the Woods, boo hoo. Hope to be able to order a copy on Amazon.co.uk soon. Maybe Maniac Cop...yup, I think I'll watch Maniac Cop.

well, Sean...here we go.

my first 3 movies were:

Maniac Cop
Invasion of the body snatchers (1956)
The Midnight Meat Train

enjoyed all 3 of them.

Maniac Cop is one of them cult slasher flicks from the 80's that you just have to love if you enjoy that specific genre. It's basically about a serial killer in cop uniform going bazooka. And it's got Bruce Campbell, Tom Atkins and Richard Roundtree in it. Nothing can go wrong with that combo. Really enjoyable flick and a perfect start into the Halloween season!

Invasion of the body snatchers is really awesome too. Pretty groundbreaking for its time I'd say. Pretty good special effects, great atmosphere and great cinematography. You can definitely tell that this one was VERY influential on many horror and scienece fiction movies following it. I guess it's a sci-fi flick for the most part but I think there's enough horror movie elements to it to make it fit into my Halloween marathon.

The Midnight Meat Train was quite enjoyable too. Starts out as a more or less regular serial killer movie but then has a real nice twist to it in the end. It somehow reminded me of the TV show 'Tales from the crypt'. I don't really know why but it had that kind of vibe. Oh and it's based on a short story by Clive Barker who also was involved in the making of the movie so I guess a shit ton of brutality is almost to be expected from this one. And there sure as hell is tons of rather uncompromising brutality to be found. If you love Clive Barker and like your horror flicks brutal then you'll enjoy this one.

Let us dance, sir! My reviews for the past two days, and these are all lifted from my blog so might seem a bit out of place:

10/1 Cabin in the Woods: To kick things off I started the month with Drew Goddard's Cabin in the Woods. To put it simply... wow. A truly imaginative, original (while being based in the most clich

The Cabin in the Woods sounds sweet. Hope I can watch it soon!

oh and I should also mention that before my Halloween marathon started I watched the Indiana Jones trilogy on Blu-ray. The movies are awesome, everyone knows that. But damn do they look awesome on Blu-ray. The restoration process and HD transfers have been supervised by Spielberg himself and I couldn't be more impressed. And no, the movies have not been altered in any way for the trilogy release on Blu-ray. I can't see how these 3 movies will ever look any better than this.

Dark Shadows I understand that this is based on tv show from late sixties...? Anyways I think that this probably should have done more up to date as that 60's spirit don't really work as it should. Ex Bond girl Eva Green looks looney enough to pull her role quite nicely though. Don't know, it was bit meh... Not bad but nothing too special either.

Cabin in the Woods second time and it was good this time around too.

Finally mini-series Spartacus: Gods of the Arena. Prequel to actual Spartacus series, gives background to house Batiatus and some other characters in the main series. Same basic components here as in main series, blood, blood, violence, blood, nudity, some more blood and violence. And nudity. Did I mention blood already? It's bloody great.

The Loved Ones.
Story is about a lonely high school girl who is rejected by a boy she likes to go to the dance; he already has a girlfriend and a troubled life, and doesn't need her problems.
Rejected girl proceeds to kidnap him and torture him so that he realizes he said no to the wrong woman.
Dark, gory, twisted and quite funny. Definitely worth a watch.

Ghost Town

Didn't even intend to watch it as it was on tv thus annoyingly interrupted by commercials every so often, but I actually found myself wanting to see it as it progressed. Funny movie, hilarious at times, and normally I don't care that much for Ricky Gervais.

Oh yeah, I enjoyed that one as well. And yes, he can be annoying but in that movie I did find myself following the story. Some side-splitting lines in it here and there too.
