Yeah, Blood Creek was not as interesting as it could have been. I would have preferred if the entire film was like its black and white intro.

Watched Kung Fu Panda 2 with my little sister at her request. Have not seen the first one, but this film was fun enough. Gary Oldman plays an evil, pompous peacock quite well. Jack Black was himself in panda form (of course). Good to watch with kids.

Exam. Great thriller! And it reminded me a bit of a stageplay/an older Hitchcock film. Don't want to give too much away, but it's pretty different and highly recommended.

updated my last post and added my thoughts to the movies....

and now on to the latest ones:

Silent Hill

well, I will admit I may look at this movie through fanboy glasses and rate this movie higher than others would. But one just has to appreciate the respect that Christophe Gans treated the Silent Hill franchise with. The guy is actually a fan of the game himself and played it back in 1999 on the good old PS1 like so many of us gamers have and is a fan. I would assume you can't say the same thing about Paul W.S. Anderson and his Resident Evil atrocities. Surely, the Silent Hill movie is not as scary as the games but this is a film and the games are games and therefore a completely different experience. And although there may be some fans who were not so happy about some changes that were made compared to the story of the games (artistic freedom anyone?), Gans managed to keep Silent Hill's atmosphere and spirit perfectly intact. And hey, if even Akira Yamaoka says that it turned out to be a perfect adaption then it can't be all that bad. Personally I agree! Now hopefully Silent Hill: Revelations will be at least nearly as good.

Gremlins 2

Yeah, this ain't really a horror flick but I think it can still be considered Halloween marathon worthy. It may not be regarded as a great sequel by many but I have a real soft spot for it. Probably because I've seen it many times when I was a kid. But even today, looking at it from a different perspective it's still a pretty fun movie because now, being older, I recognize all the satirical elements and how it pokes fun at so many things including the first Gremlins movie and just society back then in general. So it's much more satire than it is comedy. But even when you forget about all that the movie is still fun simple because of all the mayhem! :D

Beetlejuice

Again, this ain't really a horror flick but it also fits perfectly, I think. I love this movie, always have because it's classic Burton material. It's completely nuts, weird, colorful but dark at the same time and just a lot of fun. That's something you can't really say about Burton's latest movies anymore, alas. And I think Beetlejuice might just be the only Tim Burton movie where an actor was allowed to drop the F-bomb, heh. Michael Keaton does a wonderful job playing this disgustingly creepy but funny bio-exorcist ghost Beetlejuice, causing all sorts of mayhem. Also love the crazy special effects. Sure, nowadays they might look super dated but I still prefer them over any CGI effects. So yeah, 'tis a good one!

I didn't watch these last two movies for no reason. They are fun and not depressing and that is what I needed because I'm going to watch 'Eden Lake' next. God, I hate that movie. Not because it sucks (it doesn't, it's a very good movie actually) but it makes me fucking angry!!!

Ed Wood. Just sayin'.
They played Beetlejuice on TV last night, funny enough. I enjoyed it.

oh, ok cool. I haven't seen that one in a long time. Now that Ed Wood is out on Blu-ray in 'Merica it might just be time for an upgrade :D

Well, maybe later.

New Iron Man 3 trailer is interesting.

It is.

Spoiler: show
Awesome to see Guy Pearce is in it. I'm a big fan even though he paid out on my home town with Craig Ferguson then desperately grovelled for forgiveness. What's up with Ben Kingsley though? Suddenly thought we were watching a trailer for The Hobbit.

^Heh.
Saw The Amazing Spider-Man on the flight back to Australia. Wasn't that amazing.
To be fair, it was much better than Spider-Man 3, and Andrew Garfield did a decent job (I still prefer Toby Maguire, who played the shy loner with more success IMO). Ryhs Ifans did a fine job as Dr Connors/The Lizard.
My main complaint was that it was too fast-paced. Yes, we've see the origin before; yes, the events to his becoming are similar but different enough to distinguish it from the first film. Still, it seemed like everything had to happen now, no time to digest, no time to think, just accept it. At least it didn't try to be too much like Batman Begins, though it did follow the "grittier, darker, high schoolier" formula we predicted with rolled eyes.
I'd give it a 7.5/10.

God Bless America - From the lunatics who brought us Hobo With a Shotgun and Rubber comes the tale of man who really hates American society and goes around shooting people. That's basically all this film is, but I really liked it all the same! Could've been more murder and more anti-everything rants throughout but it's a nice little film and worth a watch anyway!

Snow White & The Huntsman - Nice little adaption of the story with massive Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones influence throughout. Charlize Theromnomnomnomnom is hot as ever and by GOD is that hot and Chris Hemsworth is pretty good in this as well. I hate that bitch from Twilight though. She had all the qualities of a piece of sloppy shit left out in the sun for a few days. If you have two hours to kill and NOTHING else to watch maybe give it a bash but it's nothing special, really. I did like the dwarves as well, actually! Some of the actors playing them were hilarious as well. I particularly lold at Ian McShane.

Man on a Ledge - Pretty good heist film! Read a lot of mediocre reviews beforehand about the plot being convoluted and a bit choppy and that's true enough but it's still a really good watch, to be honest! It's a bit of a slow-burner in parts but I thought it was worth sticking with it anyway. That guy from Avatar's alright and there's a great bit where some hot Puerto Rican or something has to squeeze into a latex body suit that'll probably make you forget all the silly parts of the story if you're a man. And probably even if you're a woman.

Man on Wire - The previous film title reminded me about this documentary that I haven't seen in ages and is still probably my favourite documentary ever. A really cool insight into Phillipe Petit's LUNATIC "artistic crime of the century" where he broke into the World Trade Centre and tight-rope walked between the two towers. It's a fucking riveting piece of film.

Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III (unrated version).
Haven't seen this film in years, and that was the R-rated version, so watching it unrated gives me newer perspective.
Not the best movie in the series, but more entertaining than the Michael Bay remakes, and far better than TCM: The Next Generation. Watching Viggo Mortensen in an early role as a psycho cannibal is fun, and Ken Foree is badass (much like in every role he does).
The unrated gives you the good gory bits, though it is more scaled back than TCM 2. I suppose the main problem with the film is while they wanted to make it more serious than part 2, they made it nearly as funny, although unintentionally so (goofy acting plays a large part). Still, even though it only has a few thrills, they are effective.
The deleted scenes and alternate ending are also worth viewing; it would be nice if some of those were kept in the film, though others I can see why they were cut.
The first two are still the best, and this one basically rides their sails, but it's still worth checking out. 6/10.

Some rants (and their delivery) by the protagonist were quite good, but other than that, it felt like exploitation film for angsty, teenage snobs. I liked "World's Greatest Dad" by the same guy better.
