Good news beardy man.

Hope he's ok and if he needs the help that he commits to seeking it out. No shame at all in helping yourself when you need it.

Darn it - I've been telling people at work that we need to be prepared in case one of us gets knocked down by a bus....didn't think about the pig scenario

On my way back from the suppliers there was a massive holdup about a mile from my house so I thought "fuckit I'll walk". right at a crossroads halfway between mine and the tube station was a bunch of ambulances, a bunch of police cars, a fucking ambulance HELICOPTER on the green, all surrounding a motorbike in pieces...and a motorcyclist in pieces. I didn't stand around to watch, but I saw him being carted into the ambulance on a stretcher, I hope he pulls through D:

Heard this one yesterday. The Finnish VAT law changes starting from January 1st 2013. The lowest of amount of VAT that is charged for goods bought outside EU is lowered to 5 euros from the former 10. Or to put in more practically, the maximum value of a package that is 100% safe not get the held in the customs goes down from the current 45 euros to a measly 22 euros. And if/when they hold your stuff, you either have to declare and pay the VAT online or drag your ass all the way in the middle of nowhere to the customs office to pick up your stuff and pay the VAT.

I guess they reasoned folks had been stealing tax money from the state for too long by daring to order stuff online from abroad and figured out they could get more money by lowering the lowest charged VAT, AND at the same time not have to blow money on opening new customs post offices & hire new employees there to take care of the inevitably huge lines that are bound to form by setting up some nifty online solution for people to pay their VAT themselves.

My reaction:

I'm SO hoping no one uses the online doohickey and crowd the customs offices, forcing them to open new offices, spending the increased VAT revenue on it.

Okay, this puts my The-Yoga-Isn't-Working-I'm-Still-Stressed rant into perspective :(

Good lord. Lost the Internet, but still have power. Lower Manhattan makes me really sad, but things are okay in my neck of the woods

Could've been worse, could be better, my stepfather warned me of the human element that may become a problem, even though it all seems so isolated and far away from me here.

Disney just bought LucasFilm for like $4 billion and have announced there'll be a Star Wars Episode 7 in 2015.

KILL IT WITH FIRE. It should'ved been left to die and rot and melt away into some sort of extra-shit-scented compost yeeeeeears ago.
