Wow. Not bad, nice story, characters and all. Walken and Tom Waits definitely take the cake for me. The way Waits presents himself in those brief scenes in the film just seemed hilarious. Plus Walken is Walken, turning a plain line into something distinctive with that typical voice. One voice that has probably been mocked and tampered with but meh.

Audition

Japanese horror from the late 90's. The kind of movie you would debate watching next time purely for the content alone. I did like it though. Interesting to see the build up to the ending and how it gradually showed the darker side to that deranged white-dressed woman.

I saw this recently and enjoyed it. Probably won't ever watch it again, but I had fun for that first viewing.

Also recently watched Hachi: A Dog's Tale , I loved it. WARNING: IF YOU'RE A DOG LOVER YOU WILL CRY YOUR BALLS OFF

The Driver from 1978. If you want a film that clearly exemplifies exactly what CG graphics have taken away from movies then this is the one to go for. Real car chases, with real cars and real people driving them, and to say the least these ones are absolutely spectacular and truly thrilling. It's amazing the natural reaction the near misses and stunts illicit from the viewer especially when compared to the lifeless rediculousness of such modern films as "The Transporter". This film was a major influence on James Cameron while he shot "The Terminator" and the similarites in style are extremely apparent. In fact there's a scene or two set in a certain underground car park that will be immediately recognisable to any fans of the sci-fi classic.

Walter Hill directs Ryan o'Neill as the Driver, a getaway expert for hire who knows his way around any and every car and who speaks only when necessary. This is a character that you feel could have been lifted from a classic Samurai movie and had his sword replaced with a Detroit muscle car. Bruce Dern plays the egomaniacal cop determined to catch "the cowboy that can't be caught" who's determination quickly gives way to obsession. A very nice touch lies in the fact that apart from a few characters being referred to by their nicknames every one else is named according to their role, eg. The Driver, The Cop, The Player etc. A straight forward story told with precision and buckets of style. I strongly recommend this one.

Also caught "The Amazing Spiderman". I thought it was quite good and definitely better than all but the 2nd Raimi movie. My main problems with it stemmed from the film makers just trying to squeeze far too much into it. The whole "Lizard" storyline felt like it was there simply for the sake of having a "super villain" in the film and just exuded a "tacked-on" feel.

Also the whole "Don't worry Peter, I'll be your positive male role model. I sure hope I don't suffer a tragic fate in the next 30 minutes" thing got to be rediculous by the end. Sorry but asking me to care that Dennis "not Bill Hicks" Leary has just snuffed it was an exercise in absolute futility. Though I was delighted when they decided to completely ignore his dying wish

I very much enjoyed Andrew Garfield's performance as he was a breath of fresh air following the weasely, nasal whine of Maguire's Parker. Uncle Ben, Aunt May and Gwen Stacy were all cast and played well and the story held my attention for the most part. Decent, but far from ground breaking.

Exactly the same film until the last act, where the original, darker ending Frank Oz intended has been restored. Definitely changes the mood. That said, it's fun to watch chaos and destruction caused by giant plants. Those who like the happy ending the film is currently known for may have their feelings tested, but I'd say this ending is just as good, with intricate set designs that are impressive.
Worth checking out.

I'm really keen to see Seven Psychopaths, but it's not out in the UK for 3 weeks or so.

I watched Down By Law, also with Tom Waits in it, for the first time recently. Pretty good

Skyfall I really like these Daniel Craig Bonds and this doesn't let down. Javier Bardem almost steals the show, he's just as crazy as they come and then some. Good show, indeed.

Eh... I'm willing to give it a chance, but I HATED the last two Bond films and I think Daniel Craig is an awful Bond. He's good at being the serious half of Bond but he has zero of the comedic side. Which to me is just as essential. Which, honestly, as a whole I think is the problem with the new Bond movies. I dig the over the top Bond villians; this whole "I'm so evil I'm going to steal your water" stuff I'm not down with. I personally think Clive Owen would have been a vastly better Bond, but maybe that's just me.

^To be fair, he's playing it like the novels, which were serious, with humor as dry as his martinis.
Connery gave him a broader sense of humor that didn't stray too far from the original intent, but ever since Moore made him more of a clown (literally, in one film), people's expectations have been of the lighter, Austin Powers side, which I suppose made Brosnan so appealing because he displayed both qualities (which is also why Dalton got such a bum wrap for being the brooding guy).

But I am enjoying this grumpy Bond at the moment. The series was becoming parody of itself.

Very reason I like Craig is that serious attitude, never been much fan of Bond films but these new are more to my liking. These are naturally matters of individual taste... Side note, we also experienced the down side of movie theatre after pretty good run of stress free viewings. Man with offensive body odor happen to sit right beside us, and I'm talking about smell so thick that it almost made my wife womit. Luckily there was free space so we moved very quickly. oh god yeah, please let's never ever go back to the Roger Moore type of Bond. Totally agree on Clive Owen, he'd make a great Bond.

Brave. Funny laugh out loud moments but storyline felt weak. Good kids movie though.
