Goon Hockey comedy, and surprisingly brutal. Reminds me about vintage Paul Newman film Slap Shot (1977) as both of these movies are about using violence in game to improve results. Not bad if nothing too special either.

Chernobyl Diaries or maybe diarrhea... Remember Hills Have Eyes, well this is somewhat similar except it's in Russia and city near Chernobyl power plant. Group of twenty-something people travel around europe and finally land in mother Russia where they take part in something called extreme sightseeing (or something...), they go this abandoned city Pripyat and discover something more than they bargained for. Then there's loads of running around and pointless decicions and whatnot, and finally ending what probably was intended to be surprise... Except it's not. Don't bother, it's shit and there's not even tits.

Skyfall - one viewing makes me certain that it is the best of Craig's Bond films. The best ever Bond film? Maybe not, but close. A lot of old-school Fleming style is felt, with a few nods to previous films for good measure.

Craig plays the role with much more conviction and complexity, Judi Dench is perfect, and Javier Bardem's villainous Silva is truly something else. The rest of the cast are top notch; I really have high hopes for Ralph Fiennes in future installments.

I suppose the climax could have been a touch more dramatic, but it's fine the way it is. Worth checking out for sure.

I really really have to go see that film... Can't ever find time to get to the cinema these days. Has anyone seen Argo, actually? I wanna see that as well so I must choose between that and Bond..

I saw Argo. While it kindof misses the mark on the whole "historical accuracy" thing, I still quite enjoyed it. Pretty tense.

I thought the scenario was weak (planning that much ahead ? seriously ?), and that the Bond character was pretty classless. To me Bond cares about innocents, and will save them if he can, not wait for the bad guy to kill anybody on his path before finally deciding to act. Didn't even flinched an eyebrow when the girl he screwed the day before got killed. Pretty heartless allover, more like a fanatical patriot than a classy spy. I don't like this interpretation.
I think I preferred casino royal, and I'd find someone to replace Craig. He seems more like a KGB agent than Bond.

Dude, you don't seem to have fun with movies ever. You should probably just quit blockbusters. And a Bond flick with intelligence hasn't exactly existed since probably From Russia with Love, but alas, that's 50 fucking years ago now. For what it's worth I'm not trying to rag on you too much, I think you're the only person I know who feels the way I do about Drive, which I sure as hell appreciate.

That said, Craig is far from my favorite Bond as he's a bit too much of a brute without much of a suave nature, but I do think that comes out a bit more in this film than the previous two. I was a bit bothered by the heartlessness, but it is kinda in line with how this Bond has evolved since Casino Royale. Again, not my favorite interpretation (give me Connery or give me death), but I think he's improved, and I think they're starting to get their tone right.

I enjoyed the fuck out of Skyfall. The plot wasn't especially wonderful, but it was the first good Bond film that felt like a fully rounded with a tad of humor, action, and even a bit of suspense since Goldeneye.

For one thing, it's beautiful, and easily the best non-pretentious cinematography I've seen in a genre film in years. Possibly since LotR. Judi Dench gives a stellar turn, Javier Bardem once more excels at playing the weird villain, and Daniel Craig actually has an iota of charm this time. A-

Watched Shame (with Michael Fassbender) and what an unpleasant experience that was.

Fassbender has a talent of being a chameleon, always fitting into his roles. With this one he convincingly plays a sex addict who lives alone, who needs to have an orgasm frequently throughout the day by any means necessary. It's more depressing than arousing to watch. When his wayward sister (Carey Mulligan) comes to live with him, he tries to calm down so he can help her with her problems. Things inevitably go awry.

This was directed by Steve McQueen, whose previous film Hunger was one of the most visceral films I've seen. Didn't get to see Shame in the cinema, but home media does not take away from its impact. If you can sit through two hours knowing you're going to be uncomfortable, you can watch this.

Haha, yes maybe I should just quit blockbusters. Critics were so enthusiast, as well as spectators, and my boss too, so I thought I'd go.
Anyway, I still enjoy a blockbuster once in a while. The last one was probably Sherlock Holmes 2. At first I thought it would be dumb again, but I eventually "agreed" it was an over-the-top movie which didn't took itself much seriously, and enjoyed it, which didn't work with either Skyfall or Prometheus.
I guess I fail to suspend my disbelief when a movie's trying to "entertain" me while sort of taking itself seriously with pain or violence, or basically "serious" situations.
I'd say that's why pulp fiction works so well. It blends humour with really violent situations, but those characters are so over-the-top themselves (or so deep in their own twisted reality) that it blends well, and the flow (or lack there of) of the movie prevents the viewer from getting attached to the characters. You're shocked when Marvin gets killed cause he wasn't introduced to the viewer as another crazy character, just a normal dude, but you barely have time to be shocked, as absurdity is all over again, or it cuts to another part of the movie.
And that's probably why Tarantino's later movies didn't work much with me (Kill Bill (too much unnecessary violence), Inglourious Basterds (the blend between historical tragedy/unnecessary violence/ absurd humour didn't work with me).

Just watched Lars Von Trier's Antichrist. Not the romantic comedy I expected. Well, I actually knew what to expect, and I wasn't that impressed. Of course there are the bloody, violent scenes, but outside the shockers it wasn't that good, imho. One of those movies, that you need to see just once in your life, just like Irreversible.
