Sad to hear about Cosmopolis. I thought it looked like a clever use of Pattison as a way to draw the Twilight fans in and then shock the fuck out of them with what Cronenberg does. Bummer though.

Curiously enough, Pattinson's doing David Michod's new movie, The Rover, with Guy Pearce. Filiming down here in Australia right now.

If you're unfamiliar with Michod, watch Animal Kingdom. Some people think it's a bit too slow, but I'm not one of them. Worth watching if only to see Ben Mendelsohn, one of the best Australian actors to not yet be a huge star, turn on the menace.

Finally saw a movie from start to finish on the weekend. Watched Ted. It was fun. Not as hilarious as I'd been led to believe, but very enjoyable nonetheless. Good to see a Seth McFarlane fight scene make it to the big screen!

Les Miserables - Daughter was desperate for me to see this and I didn't really want to go so that probably coloured my view. I like musicals but I never really fancied 'The Glums' and sure enough it definitely wasn't my kind of musical. Yep there's a couple of rousing tunes in it but I found the underlying story hard to accept. I'm told much was cut out so perhaps there were some bits of information in there which would have given me a clue as to why Russell Crowe's character was obsessed with hunting down Hugh Jackman's character when he'd done nothing obvious (to me, anyway) to warrant it, especially given the fact hundreds of other prisoners must have done exactly the same thing.

The Hobbit - Enjoyed. A little long perhaps but a nice visual feast much as expected.

Django Unchained - I had more fun with this than I did with Inglourious Basterds, which was hard to beat.
Tarantino's take on slavery and America's climate during this period is done with class, wit and genuine tension - balanced of course with over the top violence (one scene involving a runaway slave is quite horrific). Jamie Foxx brought a quiet brilliance to Django, and when shooting time came, you couldn't ask for a better hero.
Naturally, Christoph Waltz stole every scene. He brought the same presence he carried with Hans Landa into this role, except unlike Landa, a perfect Jekyll and Hyde, Dr King Schultz doesn't have a bad bone in his body. He might do questionable things, but he can back it up that he has nothing but good intent.
Unlike Leonardo DiCaprio, whose Calvin Candie is an even more dangerous villain than Landa. I have to admire how despicable he let himself be for this role. Him and Samuel L Jackson, who plays a vindictive slave.
I suppose the only weak point is Quentin Tarantino's Australian accent. He makes up for it though.
Short version: worth every cent and second.

well, he's his own German voice actor....but yeah, Inglourious Basterds was kinda odd to watch in German :D

besides I heard there's a German dialogue in Django which they had to change for the German version for the whole thing to make sense.

Ok that IS strange... dubbing your own English performance into your native tongue. Much better than having some unknown douche do it I guess.

How anyone can watch a dubbed movie is beyond me though (in spite of my love for all things Monkey).

When I was a kid I wanted one of Monkey's wee racing clouds. :P

That belongs in the WTF thread! How frustrating!

(I wanted Monkey's cloud too. And his staff. And his chest hairs that turned into little fighting monkeys. I didn't want a horse that turned into an annoying guy in Season 2 though. Stupid horse.)

Started my morning with healthy dose of judgement, Dredd on BD that is. This movie deserves decent sequel, preferably one with Dark Judges in it. Probably won't happen but one can hope... Anyways enjoyed it again, good show.

X-men First Class.

Less of that sugar superhero hit than I expected, but entertaining nevertheless. Very much enjoyed James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender's performances (although it seemed that a few of Fassbender's English-speaking scenes were shot before he'd settled on an accent).

The Terminator

finally watched the remastered edition of The Terminator on Blu-ray. First of all I got to say that I still very, very much enjoyed the flick. BUT, some of the dialogue in the movie is a lot more cheesy than I remembered it to be. Sure, the 80's WERE cheesy as hell but when Sarah starts to yell at Kyle and goes all "stand up soldier!!!" or something like that...that was a bit of a cheese overdose. But it was still fun to watch anyways. And the remastered edition looks quite terrific!

Looper

To make it short...I loved it. Some themes of the movie were a bit surprising to me (the supernatural aspect of the movie) so it took me a brief moment to adjust to that. But once I did I thoroughly enjoyed the flick. It's a very well crafted Sci-Fi flick with great performances and plenty of great action. Loved the whole time travel theme and how it was used in this movie. Has Looper left the same kind of impression on me as a Sci-Fi milestone like Blade Runner? No. But I doubt that'll happen too soon again simply because it's quite difficult anymore to create something futurisic that hasn't been there before one way or another. Anyways, I'll most definitely watch this one again. Also, if you can, get the British Blu-ray from Entertainment One as it has more bonus material than the US Blu-ray, for example and it includes a pretty cool lenticular slipcover, or at least the original pressing does.

Jacob's Ladder

What a marvelous, marvelous mind trip of a movie. I haven't seen this movie in a long time but it still is one of the best flicks I've seen so far. It's one of those movies where you actually have to pay attention to know what's going on and it sucks you in from the beginning till the end. I absolutely love Tim Robbins in this movie too. Quite a contrast after I've seen him in Howard the Duck just a few weeks back, heh. And now that I've played several Silent Hill games recently, Jacob's Ladder's influence on that franchise is even more obvious to me. If you enjoy psychological horror/thrillers then this movie is a must-see for you.

Terminator and Jacob's Ladder are two of my favourite films. Well done!

Saw Looper on friday too...really liked it. I would say there are many plot holes involved with the time-travel theme, but if you disregard those it is a fun film. Yup.
