OM was my first. The very first time I heard of devin was when he did his stint with the Wildhearts, about '94/'95. I had no idea who he was, only that he was mad as a goose and screamed like a demon on speed. a little later I saw him in the video for Vai's 'In My Dreams With You' (I think I got that one right...) and it just confimed everything - great voice, absolute nutter, cool bloke!

Anyway, in 2001 a friend plays me 'Ocean Machine'; I think my jaw still hurts from when it hit the floor! It all took off from there - within a couple of months I'd bought every CD.

Well, I've heard the name Devin Townsend being discussed around various music related message boards for a few years, and saw a torrent for Terria about a year ago, downloaded it, and have been a fan ever since. Don't worry, I've bought most of his albums since then.

Around the same time "City" got released, I saw the clip to "Detox" and was hooked instantly. Soon after I discovered that Dev had a solo project called Ocean Machine...then went out and bought that, and the rest is history.

I'd heard him on Sex & Religion & thought it was ace singing.
I had heard of him guesting with the Wildhearts as I was a big fan
I had heard of IR8 cos I was a massive Metallica/Newstead (being a bassist) fan but it was pre-internet so getting hold of demos like that was really hard.

I got this:

The next I heard, a band called Strapping Young Lad were playing a gig at Rios in Bradford. I went along & there was me, my guitarist & about 12 other people there. I was completely blown away by the metal! I spoke to Devin briefly after the gig (he sat on the stage chatting with people) & a week later I ordered City & HAARHT & got Bradford into SYL

Then, when Ocean Machine came out I got it imported from Japan cos it wasn't out anywhere else & was blown away yet again.[/url]

I knew Life from a sampler. In march 2003 I finally got hold of two Devy CDs, Physicist and Terria. Listened to both of them the same day, and after the headaches caused by this unbelievable assault on my ears were gone, my intense love affair with Terria began. Around that time I had some of the most insane musical experiences ever, and the music itself was the only drug involved!

Of course, also Physicist also grew on me (I'm certainly not among those who don't give Dev much credit for it - so many tracks of it would deserve being finally played live) and... How did some of you already put it?

Back, probably right after SYL came out, my friend gave me a whole bunch of his music in mp3s for me to check out. I was really into music, but just didnt know what to listen to. So I saw Strapping Young Lad, and since he said it was his favorite band, I decided to check them out. It was incredible, and loved it. I became obsessed with SYL, and soon after found out that he had a side project.

Interested, I was constantly on the watch for a Devin Townsend cd. No store ever carried it. Then one day I was in Best Buy I finally saw it. ACELLERATED EVOLUTION. Finally, I found a Devin Townsend cd. So without even listening to it, I bought it. We threw it in in the car, and it was Eko. I didnt like it that much, cause it was Eko. I was looking around in the cd case, and found another cd. The actual! Ok, so I put that in, and liked it, but was kind of unsure about it. I got home, gave it a few spins, and started to like it more and more. Then it became an obsession. I loved it all!!!

Now I got the rest of Devin's discography (except HAART, Sex and Religion, and all the other wierd side projects he was in), and I have enjoyed it ever since. Once I find Sex and Religion in the store, im going to buy it, I have heard it and loved it. HAART, I have to order over the internet sometime. I dont like ordering things over the internet for some reason..

Around the time Terria had just been released, me and my dad were driving around and he had Physicist in (I didn't know at the time) and I kinda liked it, so I asked my dad who it was and he said, "Son, I believe it's time I graduated you to the next level and introduce you to a man named Devin Townsend.". I really liked it the more I listened and when we got home, he stuck Terria in and put it on Earth Day. After that, I was hooked and bought up all the Devy I could get my hands on.

I discovered The Dev with Infinity. Then I bacame slave of his music.

To tell the truth I listened to the song "SYL" a couple of years before from a magazine sampler CD, but I lost it and forgot it.

I saw an interview with SYL and Devin was talking about the Haunted. The Haunted is among my favorite metal bands so I bought SYL(which immediately made my mangina all frothy)... then Heavy as Really Heavy Thing... then City... then AE and Terria... and then everything else he's done.

I was a fan of Steve Vai for a long while but I had never heard Sex & Religion until I bought the fuck out of it.

How does that work? On second thought, I'm not sure I want to know...
