The place to speak about Dev's current projects, and everything yet to come

hmm i just thought of a question, to bad its too late. i was just wondering, devin seems to say that making music is not only something he does for a living, but its his main way of expressing himself. kinda like therapy and stuff, he does it for himself so he doesn't go crazy and whatnot. but i thought ive also heard him say that he doesnt wanna play guitar and stuff anymore, and just wants to produce.

did i read something wrong or whats going on? maybe one thing was said awhile ago and he has since changed his mind.

Damn, I should pay more attention to threads. I wanted to know what was next after the statement Devin made in "The DTB's personal reviews on Synchestra !" thread.

"Vai is a good buddy and I'm proud that this marks the beggining of a new chapter of work between us."

Any planned work with Mr. Vai? Anyone else heard anything?

Ok! Here we are!

First of all, about the interview, it went pretty deep on what drives Devin to make the kind of music he makes and why it sounds like it sounds (obviously focusing on “Synchestra”), it’s really hard to sum it up in a few sentences and I wish I could post it somewhere or translate it to English (it’s a Spanish magazine), but I can’t do that because it hasn’t been published, blah, blah… I think it’s a great interview that many of you would love to read, maybe some day (when the magazine has been out for a while) I’ll have enough time to translate it and post it here.
We only spoke for half an hour and I had to drop some questions, sorry about that, Devin was sorry too. But hey, overall it was one of the greatest interviews I've ever done.
Nobody asked, but I have to emphasize on the fact that "Synchestra" is the end of an era for Devin, and he said that now he has entered a phase of doing music that is less explorative and more fun, both for DTB and SYL. Joking he said that he will be doing music that his parents will like better (but still DTB and SYL music, of course).
Let’s go for some of your questions:

"Seeing as you two are friends. Is there any chance in the future that you may collaborate with Mike from Opeth?, or maybe produce the bands next album?"Devin said he’d love to, but both Opeth and him have a lot of stuff going on, and it would be difficult for them to arrange it, but also said that they only have to talk about and find some time. I told him to talk about that with Maikel during the forthcoming tour with Opeth.

“ask him what his favorite kind of cheese is.”Smoked gouda or “halapinio jack” (I think we don’t have this thing in Barcelona, so I don’t know how to spell it, sorry about that :P )

"maybe you could ask him about the new Strapping Young Lad album, like how it will be different from the previous."
I think that I’ve already answered to that, he also said that they have six songs written and they are rehearsing and writing these days.

Ask him if he will tour synchestra much, since the new SYL cd is coming out soon and he will be busy promoting it.
He’s a busy man now. Producing Savannah, rehearsing with SYL, and also with DTB to tour for “Synchestra”, they will start this next month and they’ll be coming to Europe on April (hopefully they’ll be coming to Barcelona, neither SYL nor DTB have ever played here!)

Also, another question that is worth asking is about his electronic side-projects, particularly 'Hummer'. Such as: Is it finished, how did it turn out and when will it be released?
About “Hummer” he said that he is trying to create the most beautiful album, no guitars, no vocals, no drums, just humming noises and beautiful ambients. He said that people will love it, but he’ll take his time because he wants it to be perfect.

Ask him where he sees himself, artistically and professionally, 10 years from now
He sees himself with less hair, more stomach, probably still doing music and maybe having less things going on at the same time.

Interviewer: DO YOU WANNA HAVE A FUCKING BABY?!??!
He’s doing his part!

Hope you like it! If you have any more questions, MAYBE I will be able to answer.

Hey thanks buddy. I really appreciate you going to the trouble to ask some of our questions. I know what Dev means about less hair and more stomach... I'm in the same baldy boat! No skullet yet, but give me a few more years.

Thanks again mate. :D

Everyone, you're welcome.

I think it's nice to share interviews like that (with bands/artists that you really really really like), I will share it with the readers when it's published, and now I'm partially sharing it with, possibly, some of the greatest Devin fans in the world :D

And now, cross my fingers and hope to see them playing in Barcelona in Spring.

PS: And now that I got everyone happy, it's time for little promo :P Check out the links below (my bands, hahah). ;-)
