NEWS FLASH!!!

(That's where you find something out in the nude, isn't it?)

Anyway, if you head over to:

http://www.soundclick.com/HevyDevyAllStars

You will find the soundclick page for the HDAS project. From there you will be able to listen to a stream of the album. You will also be able to download all the MP3s (in 128kbits quality) but only once the page has cleared and been authorised. Hopefully by tomorrow you will be able to download this fucker.

Anyway, if you head to that page, and then click on the 'music' tab at the top it will take you to the song page. If you just want to listen to the whole album then I recommend that you click by 'artist radio' at the top as it seems to play them all almost seamlessly.

As I only just finished uploading all the songs tonight, the page is in a 'beta' state. However, I have logged in and out from my account, and the page seems to work fine for the casual random person. I will sort more stuff out tomorrow. Oh, you may need to allow popups on the site, as the player opens in a new wee window.

So as a first peek at the album, hopefully this will work.

Be sure to tell me how you get on.

So, my review of the first listen:

1- Monga's intro sounds sweet, nice to set up the mood
god bless monga and softsynths :D

2-Atomic Ants: The cover is REALLY cool, sounds well recorded and mixed. It's got balls :D

3- Vortech: chunky shit as usual, and i LOVE the electronica part (not to mention the meshuggahness :D)

4- October: as i already stated, amazing song! Really like the harmonies, it oozes devyness in the right way, without sounding TOO similar because of all the other layers, which is very good.

5- Gozu's interlude: funny as hell  loved it
i just don't know if i listened to the whole thing, cause it kinda locked up my stream

6- Pat & Stu's track: rythmic as hell, as a drummer i just had to like it a lot
the clean guitars give it a kinda weird atmosphere (at least to me), which improves the overall feeling.

7- Silentist's: REALLY liked this one. Very chilly, without losing its guts :D

8- When Oceans Switch: nice tittle :D Liked the vocals! Too bad i can't listen to them very well yet, because of the streaming's quality. Really cool riffage,
the mid section and the way it builds up right before the end are my fav parts.

9- Dark Light ...: REALLY nice vocal melodies, nice harmonies, very Opethesque (and since i'm a newbie Opeth fan, it's two thumbs up :D), but without losing the originality. And i just hit the mid section and i said "SHIT, this is REALLY good!", so yeah, i guess i liked it :D

10- Greg's: awesomeness! Really chilly, i wanna grab the lossless version so i can listen to this one with my headphones, sounds really trippy and relaxing :D

11- Adrift: another chilly as hell one, which i can't wait to listen on lossless! Loving the vocals, too bad the streaming kinda "empoofs" them (that's gotta be the weirdest word i've used so far  )

12- Cheese Interlude: great way to go from chillness to chillness, adding a spice of bizarreness to it, go monga go, again :D

13- Terraformer: he got the lucky 13, and he deserves it :D
awesome song, as everyone here must be expecting. The structures are really good, and it keeps on driving on and on forward without letting you breath :D
i'm actually sad cause my track comes right after THIS one, if you want your band to sound good, always play after the WORST band, not the best!

14- The triangular blablabla: who the fuck put this thing here? 8/  :P
at least has a nice acoustic midsection my bro recorded to save it :D
I hope i can make some multimedia thingy to explain the story behind it (yås, there's a story behind it, that's why it has all kinds of badly acted voice-overs and sfx; it's more of a "movie for the blind" than a song, in a way ). I'd redo this whole thing if i could, to be honest, and the streaming made it sound even worse to me

15- Blame: already liked the idea behind it (coming before canada and all:D), but i was very wrong thinking it would sound kinda funny, it's actually oscillating between scary and chilly, which is awesome :D

16- Canada: i already loved this one, to me it's the best cover on hevydevyrecords.com BY FAR. Another one in the "can't wait to hear it lossless", since monga said it was remastered.

17- Moth Wing: this one impressed me in the beginning :D
It started out slowly, and BAM, a huge epic guitarwork starts! Another one with great riffage! Very cool and roughneck transition from the nice peaceful marimbas to a world of BAWS :D
I have to say this: if you added huge orchestral sections on top of that riffage... i'd marry you
but the great thing is: it already sounds huge and great WITHOUT it.

18- Bloaty Climax: finally came to the last behemoth in the album :D
weird shit, closing up the whole trip the way it should :D

so, basically, it was a rough first listen.
I REALLY REALLY REALLY loved this one, it's a great compilation, and to be honest i didn't expect it to be THIS good. I honestly didn't think that there's any song that isn't good! So i really congratulate everyone who sent in stuff, and especially monga for putting this great selection working, and for the artwork too :D

I'll hopefully be able to do a better review when i get the songs in better quality, and i'll probably find out more kickass details all around :D

once again
WEE
awesome shit and congrats everyone :D

Sweet creepin' Jesus, this is FANTASTIC!!!...!!!! (<-needed a few more)

To look back over the almost-year long duration of this thread, to follow the gradual coming together of the project from mere typed words...to my auditory canals this very afternoon...

Take a bow, folks.

You should be congratulated and be rightfully very proud of your accomplishment here.

THIS :amen: seems a somehow poor and inadequate method to convey my wishes to all involved, but you have it anyway. :D

Mr. Townsend should be very pleased that he has fans with such talent and inspiration.

October reminds me a LOT of the theme song from Crocodile Dundee.

And how soon will you be ready to start shipping out those CDs, Monga? I want one BAD. These songs are frighteningly good.

Hey, glad this damn thing worked! And yes, the quality is limited as I had to burn 128kbits MP3s to upload. I think it sounds ok, but the CD does sound far nicer. I didn't have any problems with the streaming-ness...but maybe it helps to have good broadband.

I have all of 3 copies of this album made. It doesnt take long, but I need time to do it. I used monday to finish the artwork and yesterday to upload the thing. Maybe tonight I will start to make these bastards. I have an order book ready to take peoples addresses, so once I have made them then I will be able to send them out.

Glad it seems to be enjoyable!

I love it, I love it, I love it.

Seriously guys... I haven't listened to every track but I'm blown away by the quality of what you've achieved. Most excellent stuff. Even my missus walked past the computer and said "Ooh, that's really good." High praise indeed.

I've always wanted to play and compose my own stuff but never quite got my act together but you've inspired me to extract the digit and have a go.

Brilliant. :drink:

WOW! I really like everyones songs, this is the first time ive heard any of them except one. I can't wait to get the cd. I can hear the devy influence in almost all of them but they all have their own uniqueness to em. I really liked terraformers song, really cool, silentist was very moody and heavy and the vocals from dream walker and shopping kart are stellar, i love their productions also. The ambient interludes were awesome as well, again i can't wait to get the cd.

Just listened to the whole thing last night-- Amazing stuff, my favorite tracks are October, When Oceans Switch, Dark Light Over Blue Skies, and The Triangular Murders of Rue St. Claire. The flow of the tracklist has really grown on me, it flows through various styles quite well and fluently.

A couple songs are a bit too loud, mainly the 'quieter' songs actually-- the intro and Canada. The weird voice thing at the end of the intro and the louder marimba hits in Canada hurt my ears, in contrast to everything else on the album. It's often nice to have some dynamics in the music, with quieter bits/songs actually being quieter than the rest instead of pushed up to the same volume level, making the instruments that were often quiet for a reason rather grating.

...That's a minor gripe though, and to be honest you can probably ignore it. I've heard many more instances of this problem on some commercial albums. :P At any rate, this is near perfect as far as a fan compilation goes-- And even great just as a stand-alone cd. Excellent, excellent job from Monga and everyone involved! ...Except myself, I still think I could've done better. Maybe an orchestra like Yanko mentioned. I'm glad I got in and managed to snag that particular spot, though.

Anyway, I know I'd love a copy of this-- I also have some friends who I know would enjoy it. Maybe I could give their addresses to you, Monga?

EDIT: Also, Gozu's intrelude stops the player for me as well. Oh, that reminds me-- Gozu, where'd you get that cheesy robotic voice? I've been looking for something like that for awhile for an interesting (and hopefully amusing) idea I've had for awhile... But none of the downloadable free voice synths I've tried have sounded 'cheesy' enough. :P
