wow...just wow, that thing's amazing...

How would you say this one sounds compared to his other stuff? I've heard Zoetrope, Pigs of the Roman Empire, Stalker, Metavoid, and Paradise Disowned. How would you say it compares to those, and how is it different?

Sorry I took so long to reply, I'd completely forgotten about this thread, although I haven't been posting much lately as a whole.

It's very similar, but for some reason I just like it more. Possibly more relaxing. The sounds in it are just something more relaxing, but at the same time I find it to be more sinister. I don't know what it is, but something about it I like a lot more.

I've also been listening to Dr. Jeffrey Thompsons' Brainwave Music stuff lately, very good for meditation. Found out about it from http://www.grasshopper.com

Ulver, Sigur Ros, some Fredrik Thordendal, all Justin Broaderick; Jesu, some God Forbid.. My brother has a band called Volley Theory that's really nice ambient stuff in places, you'll probably find them on Bebo.

Aix Em Klemm and Mogwai for sure.

Ill also back all of the Sigur Ros suggestions. While theyre deffinitly different than the stuff on The Hummer, its still fantastic, relaxing (and sometimes entergetic) music. Explosions In The Sky fit in a similar way

Yeah, Sigur Ros isn't the same as most other ambient stuff I listen to, same with Jesu, but they'd fit the mold. Explosions in the Sky also fit very well, like to listen to them while I do homework. I actually saw them a couple weeks ago and they blew my mind.

I don't know if they really are ambient, per se, but Negativland has some pretty interesting sound collages. I enjoy "Escape from Noise."

Oh, and more recent release, "Deathsentences of the Structurally Weak and Highly Polished." That's more ambient-like.

What bands are they like? Their name is very like a lot of crap stuff, those 'Snow Patrol' and 'Death Cab For Cutie' and 'Bloc Party' Indie retards..

Some people consider them to be indie, and they do look kind of indie, but their sound is more post-rock. No lyrics or vocals in the music, just guitar and drums mainly with some bass in there. Builds up and then climaxes type of stuff.

Noticed quite a few people mentioned Brian Eno... but they didn't mention the Discreet album. That by far is pretty awesome, considering one side of the album is a 30 minute long soothing melody of flutes and other instruments... while the other side is three different versions of Canon in D, all slowed down, depicting different parts of the piece. I liked it at least...

Another awesome ambient piece is Pink Floyd's Ummagumma. Very trippy... have yet to actually trip on anything with it, but I only do anything very rarely. Just the way my body chemistry is made up, I guess.

I would second Klaus Schulze and would also add Edgar Froese (first two albums), old Tangerine Dream and Death Ambient.

Sigur Ros don't really sound like those bands...

I don't really know how to describe them... like if you took Radiohead's pretty quieter parts and extended them into 8 minute long songs... I guess they could be called post rock but they're a lot less predictable/boring than the "build-up-->climax" type thing, and I get bored of pretty much all the other post rock bands after 2-3 songs.

either way they're awesome :O

CDataKill's "Brazillian Nightmare" album is good.

I'm not sure about their other albums, I don't think all of their stuff is ambient.

Substanz T's "Tripped experiences" album is really good too.
