Hey Dave...

The "trinity-version" won't differ from the other versions musically seen.
But it'll be a bit more "personal". Think of it as an "ultra-limited deluxe
edition", coming in a Digipack, with a t-shirt and with even more stuff
on the bonus DVD. But don't worry, most of the stuff will be just private
messages to Devin from both Mike and me. You know: "what your music
means to me , how it changed my life and why I did this tribute...".
Private stuff like that...

Yeah, the drums...programming drums can be a real pain in the ass...
Sequencing a really "alive-sounding" drum track is a very time-
consuming process. It's much more comfortable to work with a real
drummer. It gives you a lot of new ideas while jamming the parts.
And it's a lot easier to change things without having to program new
sequences first. Plus: Mike is an old friend and bandmate of mine,
also is a big Devin Townsend fan and he was with me when I started
the project in 2000. We lost contact for a while, but now we're playing
together again. We know each others playing style well, and we make
a perfect team.

Well, Mike is not a Gene Hoglan on the drums and neither am I a
Devin Townsend on the guitar or on the vocals, but to hell with it.
We'll do our best...and I think that we're gonna kick some ass...
...OUR WAY...

Hey everybody...(@ Scoon: I think this will answer your question...)

I think I've found the perfect solution for the "TF"-packaging now.
Once I'll have the two finished "master-discs" (the "TF"-album on CD,
the bonus material on a DVD) I'll have everything copied and labeled
by a german company called "Kronenberg Media".

The blank discs (100 CDs and 100 DVDs) will cost me 81 Euros. Having
Kronenberg copy the data from the master discs to those units will cost
me 58 units. Having Kronenberg printing these with the "TF"-design and
sealing them then will cost me 118 Euros. So much for the discs.
Oh, by the way. The audio disc will be black on both the data and the
label side with a large silver "TF"-logo on it, with the line "Terraformer -
A tribute to Devin Townsend" below. The bonus DVD will be silver with
a 3D effect, having the same Logo and line on it (in black this time),
with the extension "Bonus DVD".

Now for the packaging.
I'll use windowed DVD "Tintops". They are cheap, durable and look
FUCKING cool! Another advantage is that one Tintop can hold both
discs on one holder. The Tintops then will be packed into "Tintop
metal-boxes".

Take a look (the text is in german, but the pics speak for themselves):

http://www.kronenberg.com/cdrec/Verpack ... _dvds.html

Dont be confused by the red disc they put into the case on the first big
picture. The window iself is CLEAR.

These will hold the discs.
And they'll be packed into THOSE:

http://www.kronenberg.com/cdrec/Verpack ... s_dvd.html

So far the whole bunch of stuff (discs+boxes) will cost me 555 Euros
for 100 units.

I also plan to have the the tintops laser-printed. The outer case will have
a large "Terraformer"-Logo printed on the front, together with (again and
of course) the line: "A tribute to Devin Townsend" below.

There is not enough space on the DVD tintops for the Logo cause of
the clear window showing the disc. So on those there will be only the
"Terraformer" signature. Having the logo printed on those is obsolete
anyway, cause the large Logo on the disc will be visible through the
window.

Take get an idea of how the laserprint looks like take a look HERE:

http://www.kronenberg.com/cdrec/Drucker ... druck.html

I have no idea how much this laser print will cost. I'll have to contact
Kronenberg first. If it's too expensive, I'll also have an alternative
solution at hand, but I hope the laser print be affordable.

So, that's the plan so far. And I think it's a friggin GOOD one!

So what do you all (the "future customers") think? Cool enough for you?
I think it will make many "professional" "Special/Limited"-Edition outputs
look like a cup of cold coffee.

So much for the "what you will get hardware-wise" section.
Now for another thing. I've never been good at graphical
design. Is there anyone among you who is interested in
doing the design for "Terraformer"? This contains the logo,
the text design, the design of the (virtual) booklet included
on the bonus disc and the menus of the DVD.
I'll send him or her all the material that I want to be included
(photos, lyrics, background information and the video clips),
together with some rough ideas. The rest will be up to him or
her. Be creative! Needless to say that the person(s) involved
in the process of bringing "TF" to life will get a "fan-edition" of
"Terraformer" for free once they start to ship out, together
with an extra bonus.

And yes, you've read right...NO printed booklet, sorry...
It's just too expensive to have them made. But the bonus
disc will include a "virtual version" of the booklet.

So much for now...Stay tuned!
Danny.

I listened to your "compact" yesterday and wondered where have you been. Nice couple years off forums :)

Hey! Long time no see/read!

I can't wait to hear more of your music, though I do wonder sometimes if you are worrying too much about getting it 'too perfect'.

I mean, the longer you spend perfecting something, the more you change personally and the more your idea of perfection changes.

Just a thought. A thought of somebody that is mad keen to hear more Terraformer stuff!

Hey man...

Yeah, I know...nothing to do with "chasing perfection" though. As a matter of fact the record itself will be very "rough" sounding.
Rough in the meaning of "live", not necessarily "lo-fi" or "demo-like". Minimum amount of tracks used. No overdubs. Quite the
opposite of Devins' "up to 300 tracks per song"-"madness" of "Infinity". I hardly ever use more than 12 tracks per song. No particular
reason for that though. Just my style. Sound itself got a whole lot more "punchy" and "untamed", especially in the low-end area.
Found that compressing the low end too hard takes the "breathing" out of the mix. So I decided to rather sacrifice some dBs than
to take the "massiveness" out of it. It's loud as fuck though in the passages in which it's supposed to be.

The reason for the delay has a different origin though.

That's how a song should be. Kudos to you.
