Off to yoga.

Weeeeeeeeee!

The missus and I are starting yoga classes in a couple of weeks. Can't wait!!! And you get a free vego meal at the end of every class. Totally cool.

Sweet! Which practice of yoga?

I'm still trying to grasp why a person would have to pay taxes in order to practice religion. Maybe it's too early in the morning for me.

Religion tax seems very, very strange indeed. If I believed in something I'd just say f%$# off, I'm not paying!

As for yoga, we're going to try out the beginners class with these guys:

http://www.atmayoga.com.au/

They seem pretty cool. Provided they don't try to convert us into raging Haris or anything (appropriate, given the topic!), it should be good.

Interesting. Appears more of a meditation style than Bikram. I hope you two enjoy it. :) I've said it before and I'll say it again, yoga will change your life. Mentally, physically, spiritually...everything.

Here's where I go: http://www.bikramyogatri-cities.com/.

I am mostly buddhist as well (but not quite). Used to be athiest. I suppose I still would be, considering there is no real "God" in buddhism. But what I mean is that I used to believe in nothing but science before. However... as Einstein put it... Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind - I can't discredit religion fully anymore.

I think spirituality is important. Doesn't matter what faith you are. But since I've become spiritual I've learned to enjoy my life a lot more.

I would call myself an Atheist. I don't believe in a god because I haven't been presented with evidence other than the Bible that one exists. I don't really feel like I need to have faith in a god to feel good about my life either.

It's frustrating though, living in Arkansas, which might as well be Baptistville, USA. If you don't believe here, you WILL be discriminated against.

But I've always been interested in Buddhism. Any Buddhists care to share with me?

Cool, thanks. Have you tried different styles, and would you recommend Bikram over others? We really liked the look of Bikram and there's a place in Brisbane. We just had concerns about getting straight into something that might be a little hardcore for beginners! But if that's not the case we might go down that path instead.

It's all new to us, so any advice would be appreciated! :D

No, I haven't tried any other kind, so I can only recommend Bikram. It is quite difficult, but so well worth it. It *is* a work-out, while a lot of other forms of yoga seem to be more focused on meditation. If you two are looking for something to get you into shape, then I would go the Bikram route.

I had no prior yoga practice before Bikram either, so I don't think lack of experience should deter you guys. The only thing the instructor should expect from a new student is for he or she to stay in the heated room throughout the entire class, and to try to lie still during Sa Va Sana (Dead Body Pose)...which sounds easy enough, but seems to be the most difficult for people.

Anyways, if you guys decide to try it, let me know and I'll pass on a bunch of information and tips to you. :)

Great! We discussed it last night and we think we're going to give Bikram a try. We're struggling to get fitter than we are (which is not very!), so it sounds ideal. The heat isn't an issue. It's not even halfway through spring here and the temp is regularly in the low 30's celsius already. By the time summer comes around 37 C will be around the same as the temperature outside anyway! :P

We're about to move house in the next few weeks which is delaying our start but I will most definitely be seeking your advice as soon as we're ready to go. :)

Thanks. Moving is horrible and this will be something like 6 moves in 3 years. :(

I'll keep in touch! :)

Finland sounds like it needs a modern version of John Knox to start a Reformation.

I'm an atheist. The way I see it, the burden of proof lies on those that say that a god does exist, so all these "you can't prove he doesn't" defences carry no weight with me.

Though I don't believe a god exists, I must leave my mind open for the possibility (wouldn't be very scientific of me to rule it out 100%) of a god, though the "definition" of it gets increasingly more vague as we learn more of how our world and universe works.

I will say that the organized mono/polytheistic religions are about as believable to me as what the ancient Greeks believed (an nowhere near as cool). Nevermind the corruption and exploitation these religions are practically synonymous with.

agnostic for me
when i entered my teens, i made it a duty to profess my belonging to atheism, but as i grew up i realized i didnt know if god existed, or not, and that at the end of the day it has little meaning in my life.

i like spirituality, but the concept of a god creature does kinda weird me out
