You guys need to get yourselves some bettter speakers. Drums are spot on.
Ryan made a better point than I could so I'll leave it at that.

Looking forward to Addicted like a... well an addict.
FIZZZT was my first Devin album and this idea of heavy groove, pop style songs with an edge also reminds me of that album. I've heard that Dev wasn't happy with how Physicist turned out. Perhaps this is his final adjustment to that formula.

To be honest though, Addicted is the only album I don't have some kind of preconception about. Which makes me very excited indeed.
Still looking forward to the ambient album most though I think.

Absolutely.

Worse than ridiculous. It would be standard.

WizardJoe wrote:Ryan, was just wondering how you'd compare Addicted to anything else he's done - from descriptions along the lines of really happy pop-ish metal songs I'm getting a Physicist feeling, but then with others like big overblown chorusey songs I'm getting a Vampira/ Far Beyond Metal feeling...

...am I way off?

Either way I think Addicted is my most anticipated release of the four, purely because it sounds the most interesting. Good luck with the recording!

Hey WizardJoe,

To answer your question.... Dev doesn't really repeat himself. He will have hints of his past on his new records but he always keeps pushing for something new. I love that about the guy and his music.

With "Addicted", from what I've heard so far, this is my guess.... I think you're going to have the epic catchiness of Ocean Machine and all of his catchier songs throughout his solo albums combined, the production of Accelerated Evolution x 10 and then some (huge and slick.... BIG drums and guitars... he,he), the heaviness of Ziltoid (vibe wise)at times and for the most part some new and evolved "Dev-Like" grooves that will CRUSH and make you want to dance or mosh!!!! Pick your poison. If I had to use one word to describe this album..... it would be "HUGE"!

This album I feel is going to be epic from a production stand point and catchy as fuck from a song stand point. Overall I think you'll hear influences from his whole solo career BUT in the end it'll be something new, fresh and easy to listen to. Personally, I'm going to play my ass off and lay down some monstrous grooves and fills and get the best drum sound EVER out of my Pearl Reference Kit. Fuck... I'm stoked.

Best,

RVP

I caught you guys on that tour in Cleveland...watching you play was a sight to behold!

WOW!

Thanks for the kind words bro... that's a nice compliment.

Jesus! It sounds perfect man - cannot wait! Any hints on who else is on the album? Cannot wait to hear said monstrous drum sound, I always found your style to be fucking powerful shit anyway so this should be immense!

All the best!

I hope the drums are better produced this time. That was the weakest kick I've ever heard.

He's a bit of a jazz drummer. It was a bit of a jazz sound.

I can't wait for Addicted. I believe Dev said it's his take on pop... I love pop. Call me an asshole...

RVP, do you know yet when you guys will start recording--or are you still just jamming it out for a bit? Either way, the record sounds like it'll be great! Which begs the question (I don't know if you're supposed to answer it here, but maybe in the spoiler thread), what did you think of Ki?

I know who will be playing on the album.... but out of respect, I'll leave that question to be answered by Dev. The bottom line is that the lineup is fucking awesome, great musicianship, great people.

Hey man,

We will be recording soon, again, Dev will let you all in on when we will be hitting the studio.. We are currently jamming out the material right now and it is fun as hell and awesome music to play.

As for "Ki". Dev gave me a mastered copy of "Ki" and I've probably listened to the album 30 times or more, most recently, this morning. All I can say is that it's a diverse, catchy, heavy, beautiful and new direction for Dev. It sounds like nothing else he has dome before. The production is awesome, the songs are excellent. Advice to you all when you get the record.... listen to "Ki" as a whole album. It's a journey, like most of Dev's music. There are peaks and valley's throughout the record and by the end of the album you'll have a smile on your face, like I always do when I finish listening to it.

Dev went out on a limb on this record and he nailed it!!!! Duris kicked ass on drums and all the guest musicians (Including Dave Young - DTB) did a fantastic job. Don't forget this is part 1 of 4 albums. Each album will be different and have it's own sound. "Ki" is a perfect and interesting beginning. Again, my opinion.....

What are you listening to it on, your laptop speakers? Are you a producer? I'd say however it sounds, as many records as Dev has worked on, it is the kick sound he wanted for this record. It's not SYl.
