Awesome is an understatement!

if there was a word for how "Awesome" this is, it would be a word only the Metal gods could pronounce.

 Good one. And very true, at that! I'd like for all things metal to be spoken in dwarf-tongue - Tolkien style. 8)

RVP Studio Update:

Day One

Yesterday was AWESOME! We didn't start recording until 8pm, we took our time had lots of fun in the studio and got one of the best drum sounds in my entire life!!! My Pearl Reference Kit sounds freakin' amazing!!!! I'm glad Pearl sent me a new 24" Reference Kick, because it destroys any kick drum I've EVER played and I've played too many to count.... Dev loves it too, which is most important for this album.

The vibe is nothing short of awesome. Everyone is on their game, laughing, cracking jokes at each other and overall having a blast! When the click track starts.... then it's game on and we "Rock the FUCK out!" I'm really happy with the 4 songs we recorded yesterday. We recorded for about 3.5 hrs yesterday and will finish drum tracks today. I'll blast out another 8 songs today.

The vibe of the music is catchy but WAY more crushing than I thought it would be. This album is very heavy in a positive way. The drumming is all about slammin' grooves but there are a couple really cool, intense fills spread out throughout the album. This will be an album that will make you wanna' move, so much energy to it. I'm really excited.

Beavis is absolutely killin' it on the Bass. I never thought I'd say him playing Bass but damn does he do a wicked job of it, we are one tight rhythm section. Mark Cimino is a sick guitar player and he is rippin' it up with us and moshing while recording!!! No lie, this guy has awesome energy in his playing and while he plays!! It's awesome. And... of course... Dev. Since Dev has gone sober and no weed, he has become the best I've ever seen him. He was freakin' amazing even when he did weed and booze but he is so focused now and on fucking fire with singing and playing guitar. It's a tremendous honor to be playing with one of the best guitar players, song writers and producers in the world, in my opinion. He gets the magic out of all of us and I've never had as much fun in the studio as I'm having now. This is just plain awesome.

So there it is, I'm stoked, sorry if it's a bit much for you all to read, but seriously you guys are all in for hell of a fun, heavy and catchy record called "Addicted". I promise to slam the shit out of the drums today for you all and to help contribute to a classic Devy album in the making.

Lastly, thanks to all you fans who support Devin and his supporting cast. Without you devoted kick ass fans, Dev wouldn't be doing this which means I wouldn't be doing this. So thank you...

YOU ALL FUCKING RULE!!!!!

One more update tomorrow from me and then I'm off to get married in the Dominican Republic. We fly out tomorrow night. What a week for me, an RVP Modern Drummer feature (first ever), recording the best Devy album I've been involved in and then getting married in dominican Republic. This has to be the best week of my life hands down.... stay posted for a new update tomorrow...

Best,

RVP

Would you say that the drumming on Addicted is a different style or different sound from Gene Hoglan's?
This is a completely neutral question, I don't mean to imply that I prefer one drummer over the other. Just curious :)

So this CD is going to be a bass player's dream come true, then? Awesome 8)
