I love the song AAA....because of the dance-like groove to it.

I canne wait!

I disagree. If I HAVE to attribute it to a sound, I want it to be more like Depth Charge.

But I don't. I want it to be summer barbeque metal like I was promised, god dammit! Give me some heavy optimism and fun, Dev!

That was immense.
I could here someone with Dev's vocal range (do they exist, other than Dev?!) singing over that.

Oh man....oops. That is me guys. Sorry, I was saying I was with Biert on the whole female vocal cover thing, and I just put my link on there. HAHA!! Glad you like it though. Yea, anyone know any good vocalists? Shit, even if I have to send audio files overseas I will. There is NO ONE in Michigan. Can't wait for Addicted.

Dan

Don't want to de-rail the thread too much but Dan im really digging your music, it's pretty beautiful, any way I can get a hold of some of your stuff?

Man, I really appreciate it guys. Since we are still in demo stage we are only posting streaming songs....no downloads yet. Hopefully this whets some appetites :D Again, thank you....I am flattered that anyone intelligent enough to be a Dev freak would like what I do. Now back to Addicted....

I am hoping Addicted will be blue-ish....as far as the artwork, theme, and aura. I fore-see (sp) a crystally fresh and ambient production, with biting and crunchy guitars, huge drums, loud keys (please?!!)...etc. I yearn for a new Devy album to have keys as loud as they were on Infinity. They were almost "heavy", if you can associate that word with keyboards lol. Oh yea, and vocal choirs galore. Fingers crossed.....I am prolly way off the mark though haha.

Same, except more light green than blue, and the keys loud, but more like the loopy keyboards (Closest thing I can think of an example of is "Night"[Except NOT, because I want something fresh and crisp]). Other than that, you took the words right out of my mouth.

BUT... We will see what happens.

Also your band IS incredible. I'm in Chicago, so play a show around here and I WILL show up.

I wish I understood the colors thing better. If addicted is hopefully blue, what does that make Ki? Purple?

Thank you....I wish it WAS a band. I am limited to my own devices haha. Session drummer in Sonar is the best damn drummer I have ever played with lol. If I had access to awesome musicians like Dev does I might think about it, but for now it seems like ALOT of work, esp. while still writing an album. And weird.....you are the third person from Chicago to tell me this. I have good friends down there, ever heard of Mangy (stoner/psychedelic rock)?

I really don't think you could understand any of that unless you had synesthesia

edit: Listening to Dan's music on myspace now, this is awesome stuff :D

Green, though it's not the only one. Terria is green and sunny like the cover, Synchestra's green and murky like a rainforest, Ki is dark green with hella storm clouds. Physicist is green like a Star Trek weapon.

City is purple because of the industrial, although most people don't realize it.

Since the Devin Townsend Project is written to bookend the first fifteen years, all the albums pretty much have variants of the four major colors:
Ki -> green (Tr/Ph/Sy)
Addicted -> blue (AE/OM)
Deconstruction -> red (SYL)
"Resolve" -> beige (?)

put them all together and you get white (Infinity) which is the whole catalog

I'm full of shit. :lol:

Not to further derail the thread but add me to the list of people who are very impressed with Dan's music.

No way, you aren't full of shit at all. Matter of fact I think you sort of made a more clear picture of how I see some of it, but not all. I still get a bleak grey for Physicist, and Terria and Synchestra I get brown with the green. I LOVE your Ki description though. Never would have thought of it that way.....now I have to listen to it again and think of those colors and stormy weather haha. Last night my buddy said the reverbs on Ki remind him of an open field.

Here is a messed up description: The song Ki reminds me of when I used to do Ecstasy.....my friends would give me light shows with glow sticks, and it would give me these wonderful tracers of color. It was esp. cool if we had red, green and blue together. I would zone out, and the room would be dark......but in the middle of that darkness was all this brilliant color going on. And all this while blasting Infinity, Terria or Ocean Machine. I can almost associate it with that crazy rainbow colored pic of Dev he just released w/ the guitar.

Sorry, I don't ever want to condone using narcotics...but the experience was one in a million. Maybe that is why I have synesthesia these days LOL. :o

Oh, props on the "purple" description of City too.....maybe like a neon purple almost?

Personally I'm hoping the next album will be completely spherical.

I don't think Devin has ever written a completely spherical song

Yeah, hes always a sqaure kinda guy. :P

As for the colour thing - I think there is a difference between actually 'seeing' the colour, and imagining a colour to each of the albums. Just making sure that everyone is clear on that. 8)
I don't think I have Synthesia (or however on earth it's spelt.) But If I close my eyes, and listen I can 'see' or rather imagine I think.

The whole seeing colours with music is an involuntary reaction.

Theres also a type, which allows you to turn moving images into sound. :D

Circular?? You're aiming too low, man! An icosagonal shaped album will produce the greatest success!

Yo,

Thought I'd check in quickly after reading up on the last week.,

Here's my two cents...

Addicted's color - White Fucking Hot!!!

Cuz this album is fucking awesome. That's it! :twisted:

Thanks to all of you who congratulated me on my recent marriage, that's awesome and you all kick ass! I'm officially married now and starting my Honeymoon in a top class 5 star resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic! Good times...

I can't wait to get back and hear the rest of "Addicted" being recorded. I know Dev's bustin' his balls to make this album awesome. Go Dev Go!

Back to the beach and Sun Tanning and relaxing... I need it, early May nearly killed me :lol: Later everyone....

Best,

RVP
