The place to speak about Dev's current projects, and everything yet to come

As Oid said, Tiny Tears.
"Baby babe don't say a word
In this life you get all that you deserve
I'm sorry that I made you cry
I can't believe that I'm just an ordinary guy "

Those are pretty humbling lyrics IMO.

Tortiss wrote:"The rain will come
The rain will always be
In things I am
Are things that have to be
My friends have gone and I never bothered

Myself and I
There is no other

DOOOWWWW!! <- awezume part

It's like a death becomes musical
It's musical"

^^ YES!! I love that part. DOOOWWWW!! TDoM is really one of my favorite songs he's ever done. While the literal meaning behind the song sometimes eludes me, there's a feeling there that's indescribable.

Amber wrote:...the most recent for me is the song Disruptr, espeically the lyric:

"So what if it kills you, Oh be a man about it."

YES! That one for sure. Both the way in which it's sung, and the lyrical content itself makes it stand out. Plus, I wish more dudes would heed Townsend's advice! :)

That Death Of Music part is amazing. Also, the spoken parts are really interesting, but I have no friggin idea what they mean. It's like poetry. For example:

Home, nor anywhere on Earth on that final day will anyone be apart
...one...schooled...together...
Towards the sea...
And we may drown, fly, fall from faith
...but the pain won't be realized
Because the emotions will hit as god should
And the mountains will offer no shelter
And the clouds will be no cover...
No matter where we run...

And then there's this:

"Don't die on me
Don't go away
When I need you here
In my need" (repeat)

As emotional as it gets with the way it's sung.

But it's not really easy to find the exact meanings for a lot of things. I don't want to go to too much guessing...

Yeah, I know what you're saying because I think he's pretty much captured a mix of emotions which makes it quite hard to distinguish what you're actually supposed to feel.
Other songs I admire lyrically would be Material, Life, Bad Devil, Man & Posessions... but all Devy song speak to me in some way, which is why we love him! :D

I really like the lyrics in Deadhead, but what's being chanted behind the guitars at about 5:00? I can't make it out :(

I've always loved the lyrics to Dynamics, the singing on that is the icing on the cake...so much power!!

For me, this part of Shitstorm:

"I'm in control of the infinite mind,
And I control infinite Power
When?!?!?
EVERY BLACK MINUTE
And self-control is something I've learned...
But don't think I won't do it,
Don't you EVER forget;
If you want crazy...
IF YOU WANT FUCKING CRAZY...
I'll SHOW YOU HOW TO BE CRAZY"

Ahhh there are so many...

All of these really connect:

"The Rain is one of earth and sun
For you and me and everyone
The move is on
The way is long
The pain is here but still we carry on"

"If you wanted to
Say you wanted to
If we wanted to save the world
Where could you start
How could you start?
If you wanted to feel like I feel"

Pretty much all of All Hail the New Flesh

"Can you believe this shit people?
All you stupid fucking people
With your useless fucking lives
And your bullshit priorities
And your sick fucking wars
And your shit music
And your sick fucking hate
Bullshit, sitcom, north american ignorance
A new time is coming
And we know you'll awake in there"

You'll notice I cut out the 'pathetic religion' bit because that would be hypocritical of me.

Haha, why can't everyone on this planet like everything devin does musically and not have a favourite? Alright, Well, lyrically he has some really shining moments in my opinion, all of his lyrics are great. I nearly picked Storm, but I didn't so in all honesty if I had to choose his best work it would have to be The Death Of Music, ALL THE WAY. I can't really be bothered getting in detail in any of the lyrics of it, but I don't want to anyway cause the song just flows so perfectly its like it tells a story. Best listened when closing your eyes and letting the music paint a picture in your head.

I can agree with your opinion. I just listen to Dev's songs and don't watch what are the lyrics about, but when want to sing it sometimes, I find out some of them. Here's some relation: these lyrics are good enough that I can't tell that something doesn't pass with music.

That's a tough one but a good one !
I have to say, all the lyrics from Devin really speaks to me.
Mostly because of the way he sings it. I mean, sometimes you don't know what it means but he's so convinced about it that it's gotta be true.
For example : UNIVERSE IN A BALL !!!
What the fuck could this possibly mean ?! A million things but the way Devin screams it is really convincing.

I'd say Disruptr and Nobody's Here are 2 of my personnal faves.
Disruptr really helped me to stop thinking about a somebody that gave a fuck about me. I was ''Tired of waitin', Tired of fadin', Sick of feeling depressed''
Nobody's Here is just brillant for some reason.
But hey all of dev's lyrics are great !
The spoken part from Soul Driven just got back to me. It's amazing too !

In terms of the way it's done and the context it's done in, the 'GOOOOOONE TOOOOOO FAAAAAAAAAAR ON THE UNIIIVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERSE' (Or whatever it is) bit in By Your Command makes me sticky.

If Ralph Waldo Emerson or Walt Whitman had a heavy metal song, it would be called Pixillate, Just a lot of natural energy throughout and is a favorite of mine.

The other favorite is Things Beyond Things. Just some really beautiful shit!

It is so right that half of the power of the lyrics comes from the way they're sung.
That's why Dev has the best lyrics! :guitar:

That song with that part when he says : " BUUUURRRRRRNNN!!" " and BURN!.. BURN..! BURN! is a good one too.

And " OOOHHHHHHHHHHHH!!" you know the one.

And that part when he goes 'OOOOHHH AHHHH OOOOOOOOOW' always find myself singing that one in the shower.

And of course " FIRE! FIRE!"
