Talk about whatever you want to here, but stay correct

Hi metalheads! I'm Odysseas from Belgium. Well, all I can say right now is that I discovered Devin's work about six months ago (yeeah! what a shame, huh?) and for six months I tried to listen to other music and found that it was impossible for me to do that. Dev has been in my ears and in my heart since that happy evening when I listened to Universe in a Ball on the radio. My life has been different ever since and it will simply never be the same again. If I had to pick 1 cd to take with me on a deserted island (on which there would be a cd player of course!) it would be Alien. Thank you Devin, thank you Tracy, SYL and DTB and DTP. And thank you mods and admins of this forum. Keep it alive! Love y'all!

Hey all!

I probably should have joined this forum a long time ago. But anyways, I'm from Perth, Western Australia and have been a Dev fan for about a year or so (ever since a friend introduced me to Ziltoid). Manage to catch him at Perth on his recent aussie tour...One of the best shows I've been to! EVER!

I'm pretty much in the same position as Odysseas. I can't listen to anything else! The atmosphere and the general otherworldliness, takes me everywhere I've always wanted to go. Whether it be real or fantasy.
There is still plenty of Devin Townsend music for me to yet experience. Waiting for my copy of Terria to arrive, in fact :P

:)
Thank you so much Devin,

Chrisak

Well, it's been a long time coming, and probably should have happened already, but I finally decided to join this forum. So, BEGIN INTRODUCTORY RAMBLING:

HI! I'm DGFAzazel! The first three letters of my name are from my old band, Death's Greatest Fear. Wikipedia Azazel if you're unfamiliar with that name, it's.... this whole crazy thing... I'm 24 (for the next three days), and I live in Las Vegas, Nevada, which is not nearly as cool as you might think. Particularly since I have no interest in gambling or getting wasted. I play guitar and vocal cords, and obviously all of Dev's stuff is a pretty big influence on me. If I HAD to pick favorites, I'd say Alien for SYL, and Infinity and Accelerated Evolution kind of tie in the solo department for me. That said, I hold all of it up as my absolute favorite music.

My reasons for joining this forum are actually pretty simple: I tend to find that people in Las Vegas aren't always the most, um, enlightened of folks. Broad generalization, maybe, but the environment of this place is so geared towards greed and drunken marriages that get annulled the next day that I don't really find too many people around here who aren't compulsive gamblers, alcoholics, drug addicts, wannabe gangsters or generally just rotten people. I mean, to each his own is a big part of my personal philosophy, but it finds itself at odds with my environment more often than not. So, I just don't meet too many people that like the same things I do. Whenever I try to introduce someone to SYL or Dev's solo stuff, the reactions, more often than not, range between "What is this hippy crap" and "Turn that off, it's all noise!" I mean, I would like to think that people would generally have the patience to really give something a chance, but that's just not the case. In the case of the friends and good people I do know out here, most of them love SYL, but if I try to play some solo stuff, they tune out, with the exception of the people in my current band, who love it, being musicians and all.

The point being, I don't really know too many people I can discuss the awesomeness of the universe that's been created throughout the past fifteen or so years by my favorite Canadian, so, here I am! I'm generally a very nice person, I try to be as peaceful as I can in most situations. I have no interest in internet arguments (I really wish I could disable the display of comments on YouTube), and so you won't get any trouble out of me. I'm here simply to talk to some cool people about my favorite musical artist, and just generally have a good time.

Howdy, I used to have an account on here, but shamefully haven't logged in so long that I forgot my username. No damn clue what it might be, attempts at figuring it out were fruitless. I was a lurker anyway. But yeah, long time fan since the SYL City days. Saw SYL for the first time when I was 15 or so with Testament, and have been a Townsend junkie ever since. Way stoked for the upcoming tour, and just had to reconnect with the rest of the fanatics.

Well, might as well post something, so.... hi.

Saw Devin for the first time live yesterday in Eindhoven (note: it kicked copious amounts of ass), might as well make an account here while I'm at it even though I'm not too much into the forum thing.
Years ago a cousin gave me Biomech to listen to, haven't been able to ignore Devin's escapades since then. Sadly I've lost that original album since then :\ But in memory of a lost album I now have a big ass biomech tattoo. Lest I never forget...

Sigh, just another thing us jewish kids get to miss out on.

Welcome good sir, your avatar is amazing, and I too have a biomech tattoo.

Welcome to the Enclave.

Hi there

My name is Hector and I have been listening to all things Devin Townsend for the past 3 or so months. I heard of syl and his solo stuff for a while but not enough to call myself a fan. A complete mistake on my part.

The music has inspired in my playing and outlook on the music I write. Not to copy or imitate what Devin has done, but to question it.

I will be active as possible and Im glad to finally notice a devin board.

See you guys around.

Stumbled randomly on the video for "Bend It Like Bender" on youtube yesterday. Wow. Kicked my ass hard! Spent hours and hours afterwards discovering Ziltoid, Strapping Young Lad...can't believe I've never heard of this stuff before. Amazing stuff.

Hi folks!

Well where to begin...? Representing Finland here and I've been listening to SYL and all things Dev for a bout two years now. Seems like I'm cursed as every band I've really gotten into seem to have disbanded before I've discovered them, but oh well, them's the breaks. :) I've known about these boards before but usually I'm not the forum going type. Yet after seeing, not one, but two best (add more superlative's here) gigs in my whole damn life in Tuska last weekend, I though what the hey, I might as well check this place out. :)

As far as favorite CD's go, from SYL It's City with a near tie with Alien and from DTB and DTP the same with Ki and Infinity respectively. Ki for me is something special as it was a life preserver at a crucial point in my life and for that, I am forever grateful for the Dev and the bands.

Keep your heads held high and be seeing you!
Over and out!
