Actually, it makes me want to purchase it more. Then again, I grew up on radio, where all the music was horrible quality. It never prevented me from buying an album I liked when I could afford it. Most of my early life I listened to music recorded off the radio or a copy from a tape of a tape of a tape. Sometimes I'd hold a tape recorder up to the TV and record a song from a video on MTV. It would never ruin the buying experience for me, because nothing surpasses truly owning something you love, in the way it was meant to be presented. If I like something, I want it in it's best form. Different Strokes.

I don't come along much, only when a new album comes out, basically. This album had the highest expectations of any ever for me, and I must say it completely lived up to them. I just came to say thanks, Dev. Absolutely the best musician in the world and a kick ass person as well.

Sure, but you're talking about a different time and medium. Where before we were drip-fed choice musical cuts designed to pique our curiosity we now have a vast ocean of music available at our fingertips, allowing us to gorge on complete albums at our leisure. With so much choice it effectively undermines our ability to enjoy what we have as we can so readily move on to the Next Big Thing the second our interest wanes. This is a known psychological phenomenon. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Paradox_of_Choice:_Why_More_Is_Less

Now I'm not saying that people here won't go on to buy the album (this is the official Devin Townsend forum after all), rather I'm saying that downloading the album for free removes some of its value and ultimately impairs our ability to judge the work fairly and on its own merits. Being such avowed fans of Devin we at the very least owe it the man and to ourselves to give the music a fair chance as we can make it. At the very least it will offer Devin more accurate feedback and make any criticism (constructive or otherwise) or praise hold more water.

For some reason, I always imagine that Devin is in fact the one who leaks his own albums. (Sick, ironic joke in my head)
Only because he knows that it will be leaked eventually anyways, so why not be the one who controls the leak? He knows he'll get the money from the fans who will support and the ones who won't buy it but will download it will download it either when it is leaked or when it is released.

Not only would it be a ridiculous move in a legal sense (I believe the label could sue the pants off of him for something like that), why would he leak a 192kbps version?

I think I thought something like that back when Addicted leaked on Halloween '09. That was back when I thought Dev released all of his work independently.

Well, as tempting as it is, especially how you assholes are making it hard as FUCK for me (:D), I'm going to stick to my guns and not listen. So, so damn hard though, especially since I have the torrent open in another tab teasing me like Pandora's goddamn box....

lol Yea, I didn't think you would really do it, based upon the legal ramifications. But it was just some twisted thought in my head. "The hardworking creator handing out his toils for nothing" It's self-'destructive' in nature... Get it? Get it? OK maybe not...

Devin, you should come tour in Oklahoma sometime. The Cain's Ballroom is an awesome venue for shows.
