The place to speak about Dev's current projects, and everything yet to come

What is Dev's relationship with people he's worked with over the years... is this a thinly veiled attempt to weedle out whether Dev and Gene are still friends??? perhaps it is....

in all seriousness I wonder quite how the relationships Dev has with musicians that have been involved with his projects, whether that be early stuff, syl, dtb or dtp, are...

Dev and Vai for example...

I can see Dev rolling with the Ki drummer.

he's mentioned many times in interviews that he's still friends with the lads and talks to them now and then, totally irellevant to the fact that they don't make music together anymore. not sure about anyone else.

From what I gather Gene and Dev are still friends as well as the other SYL guys. However Gene is an atomic clock and is always busy with something or another especially the whole Fear Factory gig.

I doubt you'll see them collaborate on anything together soon due to each others busy schedule and the whole SYL resurrection rumor machine. As much I would have loved to hear Gene do his thing on something like Deconstruction, it would have caused a thousand fan boys to shoot their wad over a SYL reunion when the whole point of the thing is closure.

This is all just what I understand from various interviews and posts

I think professional and personal relationships are two completely different beasts. One may influence the other, but there are people I love working with but hate hanging out with, and vice versa.

I guess that was basically what I was getting at.... Does dev enjoy hanging with any of the folks he's made music with still, or has there been an overriding sense that they are merely 'professional' relationships.

I don't see any of the dudes I was in a band with, don't talk to 'em. There's no animosity but I wouldn't regard them as being friends anymore

and I don't like anyone I work with really :D

edit: I wasn't in the least attempting to allude to a desired syl reunion or any such, just curious about the personal relationships built around the music :D

Honestly, I don't think Dev enjoys "hanging out" with very many people, just because of the type of guy he is. He's not the most social person, and any time spent not working is probably spent with his family and folks not even associated with the biz.

I'm sure he is on friendly terms with most folks he's worked with. I know he keeps in touch one way or another with the Vai family and the SYL folks, even if it is just a few emails or tweets here and there.

I'd say they're very much still friends, simply based on the fact that Gene and Byron watched the entire of Dev's set from the side of stage at Bloodstock this year :P . I imagine they don't see much of each other, due to their intense and often conflicting schedules, but I don't see there being any animosity between them.

I didn't see them! Although where we were standing, we had a very clear view of Akerfeldt lurking behind an amp...bless :P When I met him the next day the first thing I said was "IIIIII SAW YOU LURKING DURING DTP YESTERDAY!", and he said he was a big fan...I guess I should have seen his Decon cameo coming a mile off :B

I just noticed i'm soul driven! I used to be namaste, which was nice, but I feel much more dynamic now. Wait, no, that's a different song, sorry.

On the North American headlining tour, Gene Hoglan played drums in one of the bands that opened for DTP in Cleveland (Pitch Black Forecast...they were like a heavy thrash band with the old Mushroomhead vocalist or something). I can't imagine he and Dev didn't exchange backstage pleasantries.

I was at the vancouver DTP gig, and saw Byron there..he looked pretty pissed and left about half way through the set..not too sutre what was up with that, shook his hand though :)

I always wonderd what devins relationship is with the dudes from Lamb of God because...hes said it himself, he shit the bed on that record...
