I remember InMe, one day they were playing The Forum in Tunbridge Wells, which used to [i]actually[i/] be a pay toilet, then they were on TOTP when it was going, then nothing, and now they're creeping around again. Never been my kind of music, but they know how to style themselves on camera, I'll give them (or their stylist) that.

See this is the problem. That is not them anymore! They've headed into the progressive rock/metal style of music and changed their sound (and now lineup) the poppy atmos came from the bassist who has now left. Their influences are more in the styles of Protest, Meshuggah, Opeth, Alter Bridge, Porcupine Tree and more. The bad thing is no one ever gives them a chance because of their past. Even though I like both their past and present styles of music.[/rant]

I entertained that notion, but then I realised Matt's ego wouldn't allow him to let go of any creative control, et ergo the project would likely spiral into failure, methinks.

With Tool or deftones would be pretty cool. Or the older NIN.

But I'd love to see/hear:

Devin townsend
Geddy Lee (throw up some love for the great white north.)
Danny Carey from tool on drums. Yikes.
And some extra vocals from Layne Staley (can we bring back dead people) and Maynard from tool.

Dev (lead/vox) + Me (bass/vox) + Tomás Corn (drums) + Ziltoid (rhythm/spoken) + Tony MacAlpine (keys) + Annie Lennox (female vox).

So yeah, what I'm saying is we've all got this grand plan of what'd work, but 'tis all ego-centric, and would never happen. Personally, I trust Dev to collaborate with those whom shall work for the reasons he wishes to collaborate with them in the first place.

Here is my simple, random, and completely ridiculous collaboration line-up.

Devin Townsend - Guitar/Vocals
Dave Grohl - Guitar/Vocals (Imagine if the Dev covered Everlong. Or if these dude came up with something even bigger...!)
Michael Todd - Bass (From Coheed & Cambria. Wicked bassist, and knows when to follow the groove and when to lay down the technical stuff.)
Nathan Followill - Drums (From Kings of Leon. Say what you will about the band, I really enjoy the way this guy provides a beat.)

I think I definitely had a more pop-oriented idea of what this band might sound like when picking the players. I wondered what it might be like if the Dev really strived to get onto the radio or Top 40 without having to resort to playing guitar for Lil' Wayne or being a costume for Lady Gaga.

I'd like to see Dev do a deep record in any form with any number of the following musicians, some well known some not. Can't think of an ideal lineup, any combination of the following would be great

Devin Townsend
Enya
Arjan Luccasen (Ayreon)
Michael Angelo Batio
Byron Roberts (Bal Sagoth)
Eric Rutan (hate eternal)
Shawn Whitaker (insidious decrepancy)
Pagan's Mind
The Amenta
Darkspace
Keldian

Someone already said it, but Ihsahn or Gojira.... or Textures!

I'm not familiar with Textures, but the others in this post have worked with Devin by now. ^^
