 Bloody Jesus (or, Juzus in this case)...lumping poor Juz in there is a bit harsh. He's eleven years younger than this creaky old bastid.

Yeah but that still makes him about 15 years my senior, old timer! :P

It was 2009...I discovered City in late 2008 or early 2009, and it wasn't til a little later that I became interested in taking a look at his solo stuff. The first solo album I heard was Ki (I only checked it out because it was getting good press coverage at Blabbermouth, and I knew via wikipedia that it was from the same dude who wrote City), and I thought it had some great moments but it didn't catch on right away. Then a little later I heard Ocean Machine, which BLEW MY FRIGGIN MIND, because to me it seemed very unlikely that the same dude could write both City and Ocean Machine in about the same frame of time. From that point forward, I was completely hooked. Eventually Ki became tied for my 1st favorite album, with Synchestra. Ghost gets 1st and a half place, because I love it too much to give it 3rd :D

Started with SYL's "Chicken Feather" album when it came out after seein the video for Relentless but it wasn't until I heard All Hail The New Flesh on a comp that really got me interested! About a year later I got into his solo stuff when I saw Ocean Machine and Physicist at my local FYE :)

I downloaded Terria in early 2000's. I didn't like it much. But song by song, it won me over. I think I expected it to be easily digestible and superficial, like a lot of the "prog rock" I was listening to at the time. But Terria has incredible emotional depth and humor. It was totally worth it...hooked ever since.

Borrowed Ocean Machine off a mate back in '03 but didn't give it much thought as I was heavily into Tool at that point and thought they could do no wrong, then saw SYL at Download in '06 and just stood there with my jaw near my feet for 40ish minutes and it all went from there.....I now prefer his solo stuff.

I was recommended Strapping Young Lad by a YouTube video when doing some "musical soul searching" back around 2009 or 2010. The song was 'Oh My Fucking God' and that pretty much started it for me, my brother had a majority of Dev's albums so I accquired those. Took me a while to get into the solo stuff, but Ocean Machine helped me with that. Love has yet to stop.

2006 or 2007 (I voted 2006).
A guy at my job ''introduced'' me to Strapping saying it was the craziest band ever.
I was absolutely reluctant at first when he told me : This is so brutal, the singer is balding but has these creepy long hair on the sides of his head and at some point he stops a song and screams : get down there and suck my buddy's cock !
So yeah that was my introduction to the world of Devy.
Later on, my brother bought The New Black and I still wasn't really digging it.
I wikipedied SYL and Devin and saw that he sang on S&R (I knew Vai and was a fan) so I checked HevyDevy and downloaded the ''sample songs'' on his website (Life and Gaia). Life just blew me away and I bought Ocean Machine soon after and the rest is history.
I was happy when I heard that Devin was ''coming back on the scene'' as I had never seen him before his burnout.
So yeah 2006.

Discovered Devin in a 2001 Devin interview in a metal magazine. What caught my attention was the head title "Genius Musical Centepede" (wich is more than correct BTW). And the whole "nature theme" of the album made me curious. It took me some time to get used to, but once I "got it", I was immediatly hooked on the album.

It still is my fav Dev record (together with synchestra, both nature themed, coincidence? )

Didn't know about SYL until 2003 and saw the video for Relentless (the article I mentioned didn't refer to SYL because the band was disbanded at that time). After that I bought al the SYL albums.
