i'm a drummer...been doing it since 1998.

i play for Fueled By Failure http://www.fueledbyfailure.com a melodic death metal band based in Las Vegas.

we've got two mp3s on our site...one from our new demo and one live from january 6th, 2004, when we played in front of 4 people on a tuesday night.

if you're really impatient, here you go
"End It All" from our newest demo
http://www.fueledbyfailure.com/1.mp3

"scar" from january 6th, 2004
http://www.fueledbyfailure.com/scar.mp3

when listening to that one, you need to keep in mind that our singer isn't really a jerk, and that he was actually talking to everyone that was in the audience, and they were talking back to him, having conversations in between songs and such.

Found this topic and decided to resurrect it.

I have played drums for soon 9 years, also playing in a band we created for having fun and making music of our own five years ago - name's Empiria Maleficarum (we don't take anything too seriously, least the name) and style's something you can call progressive-melodic-black. We have a guitarrist, bassist, keyboard player, cellist and a singer, I'm doing the drums as an only female in the group.

Too bad we don't have web sites or mp3:s in internet.

I like to play alone lots, too, and I've also learned drumming all by myself.

Interested in your drumsets, if you have one, why won't you tell a little about it (didn't find a topic straightly about them)?
Here's mine: YAMAHA SC Adv "Standard 1" Metal FBL- set with Tama HP900FTW Flexi Glide Pedal, Paiste 14" ALPHA Power Hi-Hat, Paiste 17" LINE Power Crash, Sabian 16" AAX Dark Crash, Paiste 20" 502 Plus Ride (need to get a new, better one) and Paiste 10" 802 Plus Splash.

Sticks are Pro Mark TX420N.

Geez, Olive?, that's massive. Must be great to control that big set, wish I had enough money to those big sets some day...

Got interested in your Sabian AA 12" China splash - how's the sound like, how long have you had it and is it worth of it's price?

Well, it's an old cymbal. I think I bought it around 1998... I love it's sound and I'm very satisfied of the purchase!

Now Sabian don't make 12" China Splashes anymore. Only 8" and 10".

10" sound is quite similar (obviusly higher pitched) and on the web I found it for prices from 90 to 130 $.

If you want to hear a sample, go to http://www.sabian.com/english/Webmayhem/soundcheck.cfm

You can check out all the cymbals of Sabian catalogue!!!

Yea, that's why I asked 'cause I know they don't make them anymore. :P Have to say that Sabian has very qualified cymbals - but I'm supporting home-made and using Paiste (also maybe a bit cheaper, and they pay their value back, very long lasting too).

I think it's soon time to put some money to my set again, I need a new ride, china splash and maybe one more crash too. Dark crash.
Toms are a different chapter...at least four more.

But no sense getting anything yet, with broken hand you don't play too much and doctors aren't even sure if this will recover that much I could play anymore. :/

Well, my brothers the drummer, and I'm on guitar + vocals + everything else (at the moment as no one else fits into our groove yet). I guess our main inspirations would be: SYL - Alien  , Tool, Mastadon, Darkane, Kyuss... Hmmn countless more, but these are more fitting to the sound thats coming together. Haven't really recorded anything satisfying yet, as soon as we get something together I'll put it up here, although it'll take me a while as I work for a long time on small seconds of sound

I moved to an apartment recently and bought a Yamaha DTXpress II for practicing at home, took me some time to get used to playing on trigger pads... doesn't come close to the feel of "regular" drum heads but playing on an acoustic set is simply not an option here. Still has its advantages though, playing along with a metronome or any sequencer arrangements or CD's, or recording yourself has never been so easy :) To expand some of the possibilities here I also bought a Roland SPD-S, which is just perfect to add to an acoustic setup due to it's small size and sampling ability.

My acoustic set is a Pearl GLX that I bought in '92... I use a 14"x6,5" Pearl "free floating" brass snare, 10"x10", 12"x10", 13"x11" and 14"x12" toms, 16"x18" floor, 22"x16" kick with DW5000 series twin pedal. My cymbal setup has mostly Zildjian Cymbals: 13" Z Dyno Beat/K Hihats, 8" K Splash, 10" A Custom Splash, 16" A Medium Crash, 16" A Medium Thin Crash, 16" K Dark Crash, 18" Z Heavy Power Crash, and a 16" A Rock Crash. Furthermore a Wuhan 8" Icebell and a Wuhan 18" China... Cheap but ok.

I have no recordings on the net at the moment, but contact me via ICQ if you want to hear some old stuff I did with my former band.

I would like a drum kit. I kinda part own one but it over my "so called bassists" place. I can play fast but im not technically good. I would love to learn.

The old but oh so rewarding story... rudiments. Paradiddles, triplets, double/triple strokes etc. as well as working on dynamics can really do the trick in increasing technical abilities! :) May seem boring or pointless at first but it simply IS the key to developing the finesse that makes all the difference.

Indeed. Playing with others are also _very_ rewarding, if not in a band then just jaming with people.

All work and no play makes drummer a dull boy.. :)
