Epic Meal Time much? Apparently you can only find these in southern California, for the moment. Still, the fact that it's pre-packaged I find unappetizing; fair enough if you made bacon-wrapped dogs fresh (I still wouldn't eat it though).
Those are called 'Pigs in Blankets' over here, tend to eat them with turkey around xmas...they're pretty damn tasty
Not sure I'd use a hot dog sausage for that purpose. Not sure I'd use a commercially available hot dog sausage for any culinary puropse in fact. I make sausage of a variety of kinds and have branched into hot dogs this year. Nothing wrong with the recipe. But it it is very forgiving of ingredients - the 'sausagemeat' is made into an emulsion before being piped into the casings. Ours are made with all the offcuts from our pigs - which are free-range, organically reared etc, mixed 70:30 with chicken - the old non layers and the cockerels separated out from the layers - too tough for the table but tasty when slow-cooked or minced. Still free-range and organic. The rest of the process is pretty much the same: grind, grind, mush, mush, stuff. I'm pretty happy eating them and feeding them to my kids. I couldn't begin to sell them at a profit because our pigs take 9-18 months to rear outdoors on varied organic feed. What that says about your budget priced weiner is that the economy has been made in the feeding and rearing of the hog.
... hang on, I'm ranting... sorry. Guess you got my point by now. I will shut up. Having a week of touchy outbursts...
